2 DEAD, 5 INJURED AFTER GUNFIRE ERUPTS NEAR CAR SHOW IN SAN PEDRO

Two people were killed and five others were wounded in a shooting at Peck Park in the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles, authorities said Sunday. One person was in critical condition as of Sunday night.

Police said there were approximately 500 people at the park just before 4 p.m., when they received reports of a shooting. A car show had drawn crowds, but it was not immediately clear if that event was connected to the shooting.

Initial reports indicated that the shooting took place at the park’s baseball diamond, according to officials.

Gunshots were heard just before 4 p.m. local time Sunday, according to LAFD. Police said later Sunday night that they believe the shooting broke out near the baseball fields at the park, and that it was the result of a dispute between two groups.

“We don’t know how many shooters we have at this point,” Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Kelly Muniz said.

“We don’t know how many shooters we have at this point,” Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Kelly Muniz said.

Muniz said the shooting was a dispute between two parties. Weapons were recovered at the scene, police said. As of 7 p.m., police did not have anyone in custody and had no description of suspects.

The shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. at Peck Park in San Pedro, California, about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Seven people were shot in total, authorities said, and five remained in the hospital Sunday night being treated for various injuries.

According to the police, no one has been arrested in connection to the shooting. Police also said they do not know how many firearms or shooters were involved.

The Los Angeles Police Department tweeted it wasn’t an active shooter situation but provided no more information.

Earlier in the afternoon, LAFD confirmed that of the seven total victims on the scene four were men and three were women. All seven of those patients have been taken to area hospitals. LAFD confirms that at least three of those victims had gunshot wounds, including one man and one woman. According to officials, roughly 500 people were in the park at the time of the shooting.

On Twitter, the LAPD confirmed that the incident is “NOT an active shooter situation.”

By 7:15 p.m., police said no one was in custody, and anyone with information is asked to call the LAPD’s South Bureau Homicide at 323-786-5110.

Witnesses told KTLA that they ran from the scene in fear for their lives and the lives of the children who were at the park.

“I was trying to get away. I wasn’t trying to see who was laying anywhere. I just grabbed the babies that I saw were scared, and we took off with the babies,” said a woman named Sandra.
