According to the Russian president, "Russia believes that the formation of new international financial platforms is inevitable, particularly for international payments"

A new world order should be based on law, be free and fair, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, addressing a plenary session of the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday.

"First of all, we believe that a new world order should be based on law, be free, authentic and fair. The global economy and trade should become more fair and open," he noted.

According to the head of state, "Russia believes that the formation of new international financial platforms is inevitable, particularly for international payments." Such platforms should not fall under any national jurisdiction; they should "be safe, free of politics, automated and independent from a single control center," Putin explained. "Is it possible to achieve this goal? It certainly is. It will require a lot of work and joint efforts by many countries. But it is possible," he added.

Putin explained that this would eliminate the possibility of abuse in the new global financial infrastructure and would also "make it possible to effectively, profitably and safely do without the US dollar and other so-called reserve currencies in international deals."

Key points from Vladimir Putin's speech at the Valdai Discussion Club

  • Erasing all differences has become the calling card of the West;

  • Confidence in one's own infallibility is a very dangerous state, one step away from destroying those they don't like;

  • Russia does not consider itself an enemy of the West;

  • It’s impossible to blame everything on the machinations of the Kremlin;

  • For the survival of Western civilization, it’s necessary that the entire planet remains a living environment;

  • No one can dictate to the Russian people what kind of society we should build.

  • Russia hasn’t been and won’t be destroyed or “brushed” off the geopolitical map;

  • All civilizations now have opportunities for democratic development;

  • The majority should benefit from world trade, "and not individual super-rich corporations";

  • The structure of the UN Security Council should reflect global diversity;

  • Some European countries have failed to notice how they themselves have already become vassals, often without the right to vote.

  • As long as nuclear weapons exist, there is always a danger of their use;

  • Russia does not need to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine, there is no point in it;

  • We spoke about a "dirty bomb" being created by Kiev for a reason, Moscow has a rough idea of where Ukraine's dirty bomb is being made;

  • The West supported Ukraine in rejecting the Minsk agreements;

  • Ukraine is historically an "artificial state";

  • The current situation between Russia and Ukraine could “partly” be considered a “civil war”.
