Watch Russian Grad MLRS Crews Target Ukrainian Stronghold Along Dnepr River

Along with air power, effective artillery support has proven key to the success of Russia’s operations to hold back Ukraine’s counteroffensive, and to launch localized offensives of its own. The ability to produce enough shells for the deadly class of weapon has also proved crucial.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has released footage of Grad Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) units firing at a Ukrainian stronghold situated along the Dnepr River somewhere along the 1,000 km frontline.

Footage shows servicemen aiming a Grad based on radio instructions of command, after which several MLRS units are shown firing. An overhead drone monitoring Ukrainian positions from above shows the artillery rounds striking the landscape.

The MoD estimates that up to 20 Ukrainian servicemen were killed or wounded in the attack, and that three motor vehicles were destroyed.

The approximate date when the footage was shot is not clear. Much of the frontline is currently known to be free of snow cover, while at least some of the trees in the footage appear to be evergreens.

The BM-21 Grad (lit. 'Hailstorm') is a legacy, truck-mounted 122mm MLRS system capable of firing guided or unguided rockets, and, when used en masse, is designed to blanket large areas of territory with explosives, killing troops, destroying tanks and vehicles, and doing critical damage to airport runways, ports and other facilities.

Watch Russian Soldiers Use Kamikaze Drones to Harass Ukrainian Forces

The Ukraine conflict has, among other things, highlighted the importance of small, cheap kamikaze drones in modern warfare, as these deadly flying contraptions can be used to take out enemy troop units, vehicles, and observation posts.

This video, released online by Russia’s Ministry of Defense, shows a crew of Russian military drone operators doing their duty in the South Donetsk direction.

The two-man team can be seen guiding drones to their intended targets, with one serviceman operating the drone while the other assists him by prepping the UAVs for takeoff and relaying targeting data.

Russian air defenses down Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter in Kherson Region

Russian air defense systems shot down a Mi-8 helicopter of the Ukrainian Air Force near the settlement of Tyaginka in the Kherson Region and intercepted four enemy cruise missiles over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

, "Russian air defenses downed a Ukrainian Air Force Mi-8 helicopter near Tyaginka in the Kherson Region. Four cruise missiles as well as a HIMARS missile were intercepted over the past 24 hours. In addition, 29 Ukrainian drones were destroyed near Belogorovka in the Lugansk People's Republic, Mirnoye in the Zaporozhye Region, Kardashinka and Kaira in the Kherson Region," the ministry said.

Russian forces thwart eight Ukrainian attempts to rotate troops in south Donetsk area

Russian forces thwarted five attempts of the Ukrainian forces to rotate troops in the south Donetsk area, Spokesman for Russia’s Battlegroup East Alexander Gordeyev told TASS on Sunday.

"Strikes delivered by aviation, artillery and heavy flamethrower systems targeted positions, temporary deployment areas and concentrations of manpower of the 79th Ukrainian air assault and 23rd mechanized brigades near the settlements of Novomikhailovka, Konstantinovka and Vladimirovka, as well as of the 128th territorial defense brigade near the settlement of Staromayorskoye," Gordeyev said.

The senior military official added that the Russian forces also eliminated an enemy’s arms depot and a UAV flight-control post in the south Donetsk area.

"The enemy’s losses amounted to over 90 personnel killed and wounded, two military armored vehicles and six pickup trucks," he said.

Gordeyev also reported that the Russian forces wiped out an arms depot, a UAV flight-control post and 16 permanent fire positions.
