During the interview, Putin said that Ukraine chose to abandon its talks with Russia at the request of the US.

On Thursday, American journalist Tucker Carlson released his interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He is the first Western journalist to do so since the special military operation in Ukraine began in February of 2022.

During the 2-hour interview, Putin opened by explaining the centuries-long history of "Ukraine", which he says was a name invented by the Poles, who considered the southern Russian lands, which were part of the Polish-Lithuanian state, a suburb.

"It didn't define it as belonging to any ethnic group," Putin told Carlson.

"What matters is that the war begun and Poland fell prey to the policies it had pursued against Czechoslovakia. This under the well known Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, a part of the territory including western Ukraine was to be given to Russia, thus Russia, which was then named the USSR regained its historical lands," said Putin.

"So this was how this situation developed. In 1922 when the USSR was being established, the Bolsheviks started building the USSR and established the Soviet Ukraine, which had never existed before," he added.

"Romania and Hungary had some of their lands taken away and given to the Soviet Ukraine, and they still remain part of Ukraine. So in this sense, we have every reason to affirm that Ukraine is an artificial state that was shaped at Stalin's will," Putin explained.

Carlson then asked Putin if he had told Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban that he can "have part of Ukraine", to which Putin said, "never". But during the interview, Putin explained what had led to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

"In 2008, the doors of NATO were opened for Ukraine. In 2014, there was a coup. They started persecuting those who did not accept the coup. And it was indeed a coup. They created the threat to Crimea, which we had to take under our protection. They launched the war in Donbas in 2014 with the use of aircraft and artillery against civilians. This is when it all started," said Putin.

"Initially, it was the coup in Ukraine that provoked the conflict," Putin stated. "CIA did its job to complete the coup."

Putin added that he had spoken to the US multiple times about the West militarizing Ukraine, adding that Ukraine had started preparing for military action. The Russian president also explained that he had wanted to negotiate a settlement with the conflict in Ukraine as well.

"We prepared the huge document in Istanbul that was initialed by the head of the Ukrainian delegation. He had fixed his signature to some of the provisions, not to all of it. He put his signature and then he himself said, we were ready to sign it, and the war would have been over long ago. 18 months ago. However, Prime Minister Johnson came, talked Ukraine out of it and we missed that chance," said Putin.

"We prepared the huge document in Istanbul that was initialed by the head of the Ukrainian delegation. He had fixed his signature to some of the provisions, not to all of it. He put his signature and then he himself said, we were ready to sign it, and the war would have been over long ago. 18 months ago. However, Prime Minister Johnson came, talked us out of it and we missed that chance," said Putin.

When asked if Russia has achieved its aims, Putin said it hadn't yet because one of its goals is de-nazification, which is the prohibition of all neo-Nazi movements. He added that Ukraine had sought an identity after gaining independence, and based that identity off of those who had collaborated with Adolf Hitler.

The interview often turned to the topic of NATO, with Carlson asking the president if he had felt felt a physical threat form the West in NATO, including a potentially nuclear threat. Carlson also asked if this threat is what made Putin "move" towards Ukraine.

"The former Russian leadership assumed that the Soviet Union had ceased to exist and therefore there were no longer any ideological dividing lines. Russia even agreed voluntarily and proactively to the collapse of the Soviet Union, and believed that this would be understood by the so-called civilized West as an invitation for cooperation and association. That is what Russia was expecting, both from the United States and this so-called collective West as a whole," said Putin.

Putin added that the West had promised Russia that NATO would not expand eastward, and yet it happened five times.

"The promise was that NATO would not expand eastward. But it happened five times. There were five waves of expansion. We tolerated all that. We were trying to persuade them. We were saying, please don't. We are as bourgeois now as you are. We are a market economy and there is no Communist Party power. Let's negotiate," the president explained.

The Russian president added that at the start of his presidency he had asked former President Bill Clinton if it would be possible for Russia to join NATO.

"At a meeting here in the Kremlin with the outgoing President Bill Clinton, right here in the next room, I said to him, I asked him: 'Bill, do you think if Russia asked to join NATO, do you think it would happen?' Suddenly he said, 'you know, it's interesting. I think so.' But in the evening, when we met for dinner, he said: 'You know, I've talked to my team, no, it's not possible now.'”

Carlson pressed Putin in asking him if he would have joined NATO had the former US president said, "yes" at the time. Putin answered that it "might have happened", but that he was not "bitter" or resentful that it did not happen.

On China, Putin said that the "West is afraid of strong China" more than it fears a strong Russia, due to the population size of China which is 1.5 billion. He added that China's economy is growing by "leaps and bounds". And when asked if BRICs is in danger of being dominated by the Chinese economy, Putin called them "boogeyman stories".

"It is a boogeyman story. We're neighbors with China. You cannot choose neighbors, just as you cannot choose close relatives. We share a border of 1000km with them. This is number one. Second, we have a centuries long history of coexistence. We're used to it. Third, China's foreign policy philosophy is not aggressive. Its idea is to always look for compromise. And we can see that."

When asked who was responsible for blowing up the Nord Stream, Putin simply said the US, "for sure."

"But in this case, we should not only look for someone who is interested, but also for someone who has capabilities, because there may be many people interested, but not all of them are capable of sinking to the bottom of the Baltic Sea and carrying out this explosion. These two components should be connected. Who is interested and who is capable of doing it?"

Use of Dollar as Foreign Policy Struggle Tool One of US' Biggest Strategic Mistakes - Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson that the use of the US dollar as a foreign policy struggle instrument is one of the biggest strategic mistakes made by US leadership.

"You know, to use the dollar as a tool of foreign policy struggle is one of the biggest strategic mistakes made by the US political leadership," the Russian president said when asked whether the US dollar is going away as the reserve and universally accepted currency and how sanctions changed the dollar's place in the world.

"The dollar is the cornerstone of the United States power. I think everyone understands very well that no matter how many dollars are printed, they're quickly dispersed all over the world."

"Inflation in the United States is minimal. It's about 3 or 3.4%, which is, I think, totally acceptable for the US. But they won't stop printing. What does the debt of $33 trillion tell us about? It is about the emission. Nevertheless, it is the main weapon used by the United States to preserve its power across the world," Putin pointed out.

"As soon as the political leadership decided to use the US dollar as a tool of political struggle, a blow was dealt to this American power. I would not like to use any strong language, but it is a stupid thing to do and a grave mistake."

"Look at what is going on in the world. Even the United States allies are now downsizing their dollar reserves. Seeing this, everyone starts looking for ways to protect themselves. But the fact that the United States applies restrictive measures to certain countries, such as placing restrictions on transactions, freezing assets, etc., causes grave concern and sends a signal to the whole world," Putin underscored.

He further said that some 80% of Russia's foreign trade transactions were made in US dollars and euros until 2022, and tht the US dollar "accounted for approximately 50% of our transactions with third countries," but now the dollar's share in Russia's transactions is only about 13%.

"We had no such intention. It was the decision of the United States to restrict our transactions in US dollars. I think it is complete foolishness from the point of view of the interests of the United States itself and its taxpayers, as it damages the US economy, [and] undermines the power of the United States across the world," Putin said.

By doing so, Washington "probably thought it would lead to full collapse" of Russia's economy, the president said, highlighting that "nothing collapsed."

On the contrary, the president said the share of Russia's transactions in yuan has risen to "a little over 34%" from 3%, adding that "other countries, including oil producers, are thinking of and already accepting payments for oil in yuan."

Putin was speaking in Russian during the interview and the quotes are from Carlson’s official translation in English.

The US had a clear motive to orchestrate the explosions at the Nord Stream twin gas pipelines in 2022 and the means to do so, Russian President Vladimir Putin told American journalist Tucker Carlson in an interview aired on Thursday.

The pipelines built to deliver natural gas from Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea were targeted in September 2022. Several EU countries launched investigations into the attacks, but no results have been published.

Asked directly by Carlson who blew up the pipelines, Putin replied: “You, of course,” referring to the United States.

“Maybe you personally have an alibi, but the CIA doesn’t have one.”

“I won’t go into the details but, as the saying goes, in such cases you must search for whoever has a vested interest [in the sabotage],” Putin said, adding that “who had the ability” to carry out the bombing on the seabed was a key question.

“Not everyone can access the Baltic Sea seabed and carry out an explosion,” Putin added.

The Russian leader added that he had been “surprised” by Germany’s silence on the matter.

Putin and senior officials in Moscow have been saying that the US had the most to gain from the sabotage and pointed to Washington’s public opposition to the construction of the pipelines. Moscow accused the West of stonewalling the investigation.

In 2023, award-winning US journalist Seymour Hersh accused the US of bombing the Nord Stream. The White House dismissed the allegations at the time as “complete fiction.”

Following Hersh’s claim, several Western media outlets reported that Ukrainian citizens had been involved in the explosion. Kiev has denied having any ties to the sabotage.

‘Losing the Narrative’: Freakout Over Tucker Carlson Signals Collapse of Western War Propaganda

The Western propaganda machine is losing its potency as the United States’ anti-Russian proxy war in Ukraine fails.

Western mainstream media isn’t what it used to be. Some 20 years ago, US regime propagandists lied the United States into the Iraq War with ease. Saddam Hussein was "Hitler," we were told. He wanted to conquer the world. He was making nukes. Americans bought the story unquestioningly.

Such has not been the case with the latest war effort. Americans are intensely divided. Congress is unable to pass requisite funding. And the US proxy regime is failing on the battlefield. Increasingly, it seems the propagandists in Washington and Langley are no longer up to the task.

Amidst the collective Western freakout that journalist Tucker Carlson will share his interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin and provide Western audiences the opportunity to hear the unfiltered message of the US enemy du jour, analyst Steve Poikonen joined Sputnik’s The Critical Hour program Wednesday to discuss the sad state of affairs.

“We're going to fundamentally destroy the concept of journalism in the press in order to keep you from hearing this conversation,” Poikonen said, summarizing the mindset of Western rulers. “What we're witnessing is multiple world governments telling people you don't have the right to hear a conversation between two people that we don't like right now.” “I think that you have to look at every single instance of the state abusing its perceived authority or power to interfere with a journalist or their actions as part of the whole war on Julian Assange, WikiLeaks and journalism in general,” Poikonen added.

Julian Assange, the renegade founder of the website WikiLeaks, has been held in the HM Belmarsh high-security prison in the United Kingdom for almost five years. The journalist was arrested after Ecuadorian President and suspected CIA asset Lenin Moreno revoked his asylum agreement after he’d spent seven years seeking refuge in the country’s embassy in London. Assange believes the United States seeks to sentence him to life in prison or even submit him to the death penalty.

Host Wilmer Leon noted that US ally Israel is also deliberately targeting and killing journalists in its assault on Gaza while the United States itself operates a “massive biosurveillance structure” more sophisticated than that run by any secret police in history.

“The United States government/the West realizes it is losing the narrative, it is losing the public opinion,” said Leon. “When you look at the polls, Americans want us out of Ukraine, Americans don't want their money to go there, Americans are opposed to the genocidal actions of the Zionist government in Israel. They're losing the narrative, they're losing in the court of public opinion.”

“And all Tucker Carlson is doing is now adding more information to that information war, and the United States is losing it.”

Tucker Carlson reveals when Putin interview will be aired

Conservative American journalist Tucker Carlson has said on Instagram that his interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin will be aired at 6pm EST on Thursday.

Carlson, who launched his own network on X (formerly Twitter) in June 2023, traveled to Moscow for a sit-down with Putin. The Kremlin confirmed the meeting on Tuesday.

The Russian president rarely grants one-on-one interviews to foreign press. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that Putin has “no desire” to speak to Western media outlets that have “completely one-sided” opinions and “aren’t even trying to be impartial.”

Carlson said he wanted to talk to the Russian leader because many Western news outlets “lie to their readers and viewers” and are biased in their coverage of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “That’s wrong. Americans have the right to know all they can about a war they are implicated in,” he said in a video on X on Tuesday.

Carlson has been criticized by some politicians and media figures at home and abroad who say his interview with Putin will only amplify Russian “propaganda.”

“He parrots Vladimir Putin’s pack of lies about Ukraine,” former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told MSNBC.

Newsweek quoted one former and two current members of the European Parliament as saying that Carlson could be banned from visiting the EU for providing “a platform” for Putin.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has revealed on Tuesday why Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to be interviewed by the former Fox host.

Tucker Carlson maintains a position that differs from that of other Western journalists, according to Peskov.

“His stance is by no means pro-Russian and it is not pro-Ukrainian – rather, it is pro-American,” the spokesman said. “But at least it differs from the stance of all these traditional Anglo-Saxon media.”

While Peskov did confirm that Carlson interviewed Putin during a personal meeting on Tuesday, he refrained from providing any further details about the interview. “After all, it was his [Carlson’s] interview, so let him share all the details when he is ready to publish it,” Peskov remarked. He also declined to disclose the details about any safety and security measures that might have been taken during the meeting between Putin and Carlson.

Meanwhile, several Western journalists have lamented the fact that Putin only agreed to be interviewed by Tucker Carlson.

“We’ve lodged several requests with the Kremlin in the last 18 months. Always a ‘no’ for us,” BBC’s Steve Rosenberg wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), disputing Carlson’s previous claim that “no Western journalist has bothered to interview" the Russian leader.

CNN’s Christiane Amanpour also claimed that her network sought an interview with Putin since the escalation of the Ukrainian conflict in February 2022. “It's absurd - we'll continue to ask for an interview, just as we have for years now,” she added.

Famous American media personality and TV host Carlson made headlines after he was unexpectedly spotted in Moscow last weekend.

His visit to the Russian capital quickly gave rise to speculation that he was going to interview Putin – speculations that were eventually confirmed as true by both the conservative commentator and the Kremlin.

The interview is expected to be published on Carlson’s X page on February 8.

Russia will find a way to curtail threats to its national security in connection with NATO’s increased military presence near its borders, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing in relation to the upcoming Nordic Response drills under the auspices of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on March 3-14.

"Our country will not leave the bolstering of NATO’s military potential near its borders without a response, it will take relevant defense measures in order to curtail threats to its national security," she noted.

The diplomat highlighted the fact that over 20,000 troops from various branches of service from 14 countries will participate in the drills which will take place in the northern parts of Norway, Finland and Sweden. "This new round of militarist activity is fraught with the additional escalation of tensions in the Euro-Arctic region," Zakharova stressed.

Russia Considers Finland's Border Closure as Step Towards Breaking Ties

Moscow sees Helsinki's move to close the border with Russia as a step towards a complete severance of relations between the two countries, Russian Ambassador to Finland Pavel Kuznetsov told Sputnik.

"We see Helsinki's decision to close the border as another step in a long chain of actions by the Finnish authorities aimed at a complete severance of relations with Russia," Kuznetsov said.

Finland does not take into account the rights and interests of both Finnish and Russian citizens, he added.

"However, statements by Finnish Interior Ministry representatives inspire some optimism that various options are being studied that would allow for the resumption of movement across the border. We hope that these declarations will lead to concrete actions. We expect that the opening of the border will also contribute to the ongoing dialogue between the border services of our countries," the ambassador said.

Finland started temporarily closing checkpoints on its border with Russia in early November 2023, citing an influx of undocumented migrants from the Middle East and North Africa. Helsinki later announced that the border would remain closed until February 11. The Finnish government is expected to extend the border closure on Thursday.

NATO Prepares to Move East, as Russia Prepares to Move West

The first phase of NATO's Steadfast Defender military exercise got underway last week with a bit of a fiasco, when the UK's $4.4 billion flagship aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, was sidelined by propeller shaft problems before it could even make it out of port.

The Queen Elizabeth was scheduled to take a leading role in Steadfast Defender, and will now be replaced by the UK's other (yes, they only have 2) carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, which itself broke down with propeller shaft problems in August 2022, only making it as far as the Isle of Wight in the English Channel, just a few miles from its home port of Portsmouth before having to be towed back to port for repairs that required almost a year before the Prince was again deemed sea-worthy.

If the Queen requires similar repairs to those the Prince underwent, HMS Queen Elizabeth and her arsenal of up to 36 F-35's and 4 helicopters will be unable to participate in the Steadfast Defender exercise nor in any other seagoing operations until this time next year.

This timeline is, as the Brits often say, "Highly likely". The Queen is, as of now, unable to fulfill her duty in Steadfast Defender, as well as any upcoming Red Sea military operations, so, The Prince will have to take up the duty, barring any recurring problems with the Prince's own shaft, which if they occurred, would leave the entire UK carrier fleet under repair for the "biggest NATO exercise since the Cold War" and at a time of significant and escalation naval combat operations in the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. A rather inauspicious beginning to the NATO exercise and the kingdom that once "ruled the waves".

While the primarily naval/logistical part of the operation will continue from now until mid-March, the land warfare phase will last from mid-March through the end of May using 90,000 NATO troops from and in the following NATO nations: Finland, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, and the UK.

The movement of 90,000 NATO soldiers into the areas bordering Russia and Ukraine is also a prime opportunity to continue the importation of thousands of foreign mercenaries into the depleted ranks of Ukrainian cannon fodder. There are two separate variants foreign mercenaries in Ukraine these days - on the one hand, you have the Tik Tok Tourists, here only for the photo ops and bargain brothels, the low budget assassins from the narco-cartels in Central and South America, here to make gun, drug, and human trafficking connections, cheap and expendable, ideal candidates for suicide missions, who don't have to even be buried, much less paid.

On the other hand, you have field grade NATO officers, highly trained weapons technicians and special forces "operators" from the elite units of the NATO militaries.

Steadfast Defender is an opportunity to give these expert torturers and killers, these trained terrorists, a free ticket to Ukraine, with all their gear.

Meanwhile, the Russian Army continues to advance all across the Donbass Front, particularly in the area of Kupyansk, where Ukrainian media have been spreading rumors in recent days of 40,000 Russian soldiers and 1,100 tanks and IFV's.

There is little to no evidence of such a massive build-up, and competent analysts have floated a theory that these announcements are really a cover excuse for a forthcoming retreat by Ukrainian forces to the western side of the Oskol River, which runs through the middle of Kupyansk. Either way, another significant Ukrainian retreat appears likely in the short term.

The recent horrific massacres of civilians in the Tekstilshchik market of Donetsk, and the HIMARS bombing of the bakery in Lisichansk are both indicative of Ukrainian desperation and their abject evil. Ukraine and NATO cannot win this war with conventional weapons, and they know it. The world knows it. But these kinds of crimes will continue for as long as the criminal regimes of the West continue to supply high-power long-range weapons to mass murderers and war criminals, or until, (not "if", but "when") Russia delivers a decisive defeat to the Ukrainian Nazis and their foreign masters.

The same applies equally to the Israeli regime and their henchmen attacking Palestine and Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, and Syria. And beyond. The looming question of the next few months will be whether Russia, along with the Axis of Resistance and our other allies around the world can deliver this finishing blow without our enemies resorting to unconventional NBC weapons, and truly starting World War 3, by forcing us to do the same. It will be a very dangerous Summer - in Ukraine and Europe, the Red Sea and the Middle East. Good luck to all good people. May God bless and protect the innocent and those who defend them. And may the rest of us get everything we deserve.
