Spontaneous protests continued in Paris on Friday over the government's contested pension overhaul.

Riot police clashed with protesters on Friday evening in Paris as a new demonstration took place against the French government's plans to raise the country's retirement age.

Reuters TV broadcast images of tear gas being used by police to deal with crowd disorder as protesters gathered in Paris' Place de la Concorde, near the Assemblee Nationale parliament building.

President Emmanuel Macron's government wants to raise France's retirement age by two years to 64, which the government says is essential to ensure the system does not go bust.

Thousands gathered in Place de la Concorde square near the National Assembly, as they did on Thursday, after President Emmanuel Macron pushed through the controversial pension reforms without a parliamentary vote.

Protesters raised slogans, while police intervened against crowd disorder and cleared out the public square by firing tear gas. At least 38 people were arrested, according to the Le Figaro newspaper.

Workers and trade unions have expressed their growing furor over Macron and Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne's decision to invoke Article 49.3 of the Constitution.

After it was passed by the Senate, the final version of the draft bill was supposed to be taken up for parliamentary approval.

Macron and Borne, however, opted to use the special constitutional powers to bypass the parliamentary process. The decision was driven by the fear that lawmakers would be able to block the reforms, since the government does not have an absolute majority.

The reforms include raising the retirement age from 62 to 64 in 2030, and requiring at least 43 years of work to be eligible for full pension.

The plan has triggered public outrage since it was revealed last year, with massive protests and strikes being held across the country since January.

Polda Metro Jaya bakal mengevaluasi kebijakan pemberlakuan car free day atau hari bebas kendaraan.

Kemacetan Akibat CFD Mapolda Metro Jaya

Kemudian, kendaraan kembali melaju lambat mendekati depan gerbang Museum Satria Mandala sampai persimpangan arah SCBD.

Russia regrets that the UN Security Council didn’t allow a speech by DPR commissioner Daria Morozova at its meeting, Russia’s envoy to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said on Friday.

"We regret that some delegations voted against it," he said, describing it as a manifestation of double standards. "It only proves that you don’t regard Donbass residents as humans and you can’t care less about their suffering.".

International Criminal Court as West’s puppet proves its inferiority — Russia’s UN envoy

The International Criminal Court (ICC), which is ready to exercise pseudo-justice on the orders of the West, has proved its inferiority, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzya said speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

"This biased, politicized and incompetent international court has once again proved its inferiority. The ICC is a puppet in the hands of the collective West, which is always ready to exercise pseudo-justice on order," he stressed.

"It is especially cynical that legally insignificant decisions (a warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin - TASS) were made public on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the US illegal invasion of Iraq, where the ICC had jurisdiction, but did nothing to bring the perpetrators to responsibility," Nebenzya said.

"Russia is not a party to the Rome Statute. The ICC does not have jurisdiction over Russia and its citizens. We consider any documents emanating from this body as illegal and void," the permanent representative of the Russian Federation noted.

"By all indications, the ICC has indeed embarked on the path of self-liquidation, primarily in terms of authority and international recognition. We are not alone in this judgment. Let me give you an unexpected quote by US National Security Assistant John Bolton (in 2018-2019 - TASS) from 2018: " We will let the ICC die on its own. After all, for all intents and purposes, the ICC is already dead to us."

On Friday, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia’s Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova.

The court’s statement said they could be responsible "for the war crime of unlawful deportation of population (children) and that of unlawful transfer of population (children) from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation."

The ICC was created by the 1998 Rome Statute. It is not part of the UN and is accountable to countries that have ratified the statute. Countries not party to the statute include Russia (signed but not ratified), the United States (signed but later withdrew), and China (did not sign the statute).

In 2016, Putin signed a decree under which Russia would not become a member of the ICC. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, this court "did not justify the hopes rested on it and did not become a truly independent body of international justice.".

Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and considers its decisions null and void, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday, commenting on the body's issuance of an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We consider the very formulation of the issue outrageous and unacceptable. Russia, as well as several other states, do not recognize the jurisdiction of this court and, accordingly, any decisions of this kind are null and void for Russia in terms of law," the Kremlin spokesman said.

"That is, in fact, the only thing I would and could tell you about this decision," he added.

Peskov did not comment on a question about whether the court's decision would affect Putin's visits to countries that recognized the jurisdiction of the ICC: "I have nothing to add on this topic."

Earlier on Friday, it became known that the International Criminal Court had issued arrest warrants for Putin and Russian children's rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova.

The International Criminal Court was created by the 1998 Rome Statute. It is not part of the UN and is accountable to the countries that have ratified the document. Non-signatories include Russia (signed but not ratified), the United States (signed but later withdrew its signature), and China (did not sign the statute). In 2016, Putin signed an order stating that Russia would not become a party to the ICC.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the court "has failed to live up to the expectations placed on it and has not become a truly independent body of international justice."

Russia to back Algeria's intention to join BRICS, says speaker

Russia to back Algeria's intention to join BRICS, says speaker

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has suggested that his country, Africa's largest natural gas exporter, could join the BRICS economic group that includes Russia and China.

Russia will support Algeria's intention to join BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, who is leading the council delegation on an official visit to the country, said on Thursday.

"As you know, Algeria has expressed a desire to join the BRICS format. Russia will certainly support this intention and will do its best to facilitate this," Matviyenko said after meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. According to her, Tebboune pointed out during the meeting that Russia was and remained "a great friend of Algeria."

Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said that she relayed the message from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the President of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which includes an invitation to Russia, among other things.

The Federation Council delegation, led by Matviyenko, is currently in Algeria with an official visit.

"I relayed the message from the Russian President to the President of Algeria; it is rather substantive - in the message, the Russian President invited the President of Algeria to make an official visit to Russia, and invited him to take part in the second Russia-Africa Summit," Matviyenko told reporters after meeting with Tebboune.

African nation wants to join BRICS

The Zimbabwean government would like to become a member of the BRICS economic bloc, the speaker of the ruling party ZANU-PF said on Wednesday.

“We made it clear that we would like to become a member of the BRICS,” Christopher Mutsvangwa told Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency.

The official added that his country is interested in developing alternatives to the Western-dominated SWIFT payment network. In his view, BRICS could contribute to that.

Mutsvangwa described BRICS as a new force in international relations, and said he hopes its growth and expansion will continue.

The five BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – account for more than 40% of the world’s population and nearly a quarter of global GDP.

They include Algeria, Argentina, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Egypt, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sudan, Syria, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Venezuela and Zimbabwe

BRICS member states currently work on criteria for admission of new members — senator

The BRICS association is currently working on development of criteria for admission of new members, and decision on new members will be made by all five countries, Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko told reporters Thursday.

"BRICS member states [Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa], the five, agreed that they will develop common clear mechanisms of admission of other states to this structure. This also indicates the seriousness of the organization: not to [admit] everyone at once under unclear principles. Such work on development of criteria for expansion of BRICS is underway. It will be decided by the five BRICS member states," Matviyenko said.

The Speaker called Algeria’s membership application a reputable one.

"Among the countries that would also like to join, I would call it [Algeria’s application - TASS] a rather strong and leading one," Matviyenko noted, adding that Algeria has all chances to become one of the first states to join the association’s work.

Earlier on Thursday, Matviyenko said after her meeting with the President of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune that Russia will support Algeria’s intent to join BRICS/.

BRICS can only start currency reform — Russian Executive Director in IMF

BRICS member-countries are the only ones capable to initiate the required process of reforming the international monetary system, Russian Executive Director of IMF Aleksey Mozhin told TASS in an interview.

The world existing before the start of the special military operation in Ukraine will not return anymore, Mozhin said. "It is difficult to say now what new world will be. We are at the initial phase of its buildup," the Director said. One of the critical issues is "to reform the international monetary system based on the dollar hegemony," Mozhin noted. "It cannot continue anymore, especially after Americans started openly using the dollar as a weapon," he stressed.

"The US as the main stockholder of the Fund has absolutely no desire to discuss reforming of the current international monetary system, its downsides, and prevent such attempts," Mozhin said. "Who can lead this long mature and absolute needed process of reforming this international monetary system? It seems to me that nobody, except BRICS countries, can merely assume this paramount task. Important, proper steps in this direction are being made already; the transition to trading in national currencies is taking place," he added.

Envoy explains to Argentine authorities Moscow’s reason to suspend New START Treaty

Russian Ambassador to Argentina Dmitry Feoktistov on Thursday explained to the Argentine authorities the reasons for the suspension of Moscow's participation in the New START Treaty to address concerns expressed by Buenos Aires.

"We paid attention to the reaction of the Argentine authorities expressing concern. The official communique of the Foreign Ministry mentions the fear of escalation of the situation in Ukraine to a conflict with a nuclear dimension. In this regard, I would like to draw the attention of the leadership and the public of Argentina to the real causes of the degradation of the international arms control system," says a statement publicized by the embassy.

Feoktistov noted that for many years Washington has "consistently neglected the relationship between strategic offensive and defensive arms recorded in the START Treaty". "The Russian position is that the treaty can only be viable if the United States stops building up its missile defense. Nevertheless, Washington pointedly continues the massive deployment of a multi-echelon missile defense system," the diplomat added.

"No matter what, Russia will continue to pursue a responsible approach in the nuclear sphere. We will continue within the life cycle of the treaty to comply with the quantitative limits on strategic nuclear weapons," the ambassador stressed.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow was suspending its participation in New START, but not withdrawing from it altogether.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic brushed off the demands of one of his cabinet ministers to join the EU sanctions against Russia, telling reporters on Thursday that the long-standing policy might change only if there is no other way.

“Our position is to not impose sanctions,” Vucic told reporters in Belgrade, before departing for North Macedonia for talks regarding the breakaway province of Kosovo.

Implying that this policy might be changed only in “circumstances when there is no way out,” Vucic said he, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic would know best if and when that became the case, adding that he would make such an announcement personally

Whether that is within a month or five months, I don’t know. But our policy has persisted for over a year under the most difficult conditions, and no Basta will change it.

Vucic was responding to social media posts by Economy Minister Rade Basta, who earlier this week argued that Belgrade should sanction Moscow because the Western pressure was becoming unbearable. Basta’s own party disavowed his comments, and some members of the ruling coalition called for his resignation

Individual ministers can’t go to the public with positions that are opposed to the majority of their colleagues in the cabinet, Vucic told reporters. As of Thursday, Basta remains in his post.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reacted by saying it was strange that Basta was complaining about Russia but did not seem to mind US and EU pressure. Basta tried to make a point that Zakharova was herself under Western sanctions, asking her to come to dinner in Serbia “if she could find a way to come.” The Russian diplomat politely reminded the Serbian minister it was Lent, but that she would gladly visit one of Moscow’s many Serbian restaurants after Easter.

Serbia has resisted pressure from the EU and the US to sanction Russia over the conflict with Ukraine, pointing out that the West is demanding Belgrade recognize Kosovo as independent but insisting on territorial integrity for Kiev.

Vucic is scheduled to meet with US and EU envoys and the leader of Kosovo’s ethnic Albanian government in Ohrid on Friday, to discuss the so-called Franco-German “normalization” plan.

The document, made public by the EU last month, includes provisions that would require Serbia to de facto recognize Kosovo and “harmonize” its foreign policy with Brussels, meaning sanctions against Russia.

The Ukrainian armed forces can’t shoot down Russian ballistic missiles such as the Iskander-M, S-300 air defense missiles and Smerch rockets, in addition to hypersonic Kinzhal and Kh-22 missiles, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yury Ignat said in an interview aired on Thursday.

"We don’t shoot down ballistic missiles, for example Iskander-M," he said in the interview with Ukraine’s 24 channel. "Also, unfortunately, we don’t have the capability to intercept rockets fired by multiple launch rocket systems such as Smerch."

"All these missiles fly fast, along a ballistic trajectory and essentially swoop down on a target with a huge speed," he continued. "It takes specialized air defense missile systems to shoot down something that’s already falling."

"We also treat S-300 air defense guided missiles as ballistic ones," the spokesman went on to say.

Ukraine also is unable to shoot down Oniks supersonic cruise missiles.

"There’s also no capability to shoot down Kh-31P specialized air-borne anti-radar missiles and similar air-to-surface missiles with a shorter range," Ignat went on to say.

He said that the Ukrainian air defense system can counter only those missiles that its equipment has specifications for.

"The main systems that we have in service are Buk-M1 and S-300," he said, adding there is a "critical need" for more advanced air defense systems.

Ignat said Ukraine has been unable to shoot down a single Kh-22 supersonic cruise missile as its speed is so high that an S-300 is unable to fly quickly enough for interception.

"In order to shoot down the Kh-22 Ukraine need a missile system that can operate automatically, meaning it will make decisions itself, without any humans involved, utilizing the latest radar and an advanced missile," he said.

But even that wouldn’t be enough.

Earlier, Ignat stated that the Ukrainian national air defense system is not capable of shooting down Russian Kinzhal and Kh-22 hypersonic missiles.

According to the Washington Post, Russia's use of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles in Ukraine has shown that the US and its allies do not possess similar weapons that are as hard to intercept, even with advanced missile defense systems. According to some Russian and Western experts, there’s no guarantee that even advanced air defense systems can shoot down a missile fired by the latest Russian system.
