No types of monopoly or domination are eternal, and Russia is ready to compete with the West, President Vladimir Putin told an audience in Moscow on Thursday.

Russian companies are ready to compete, they only need help with promoting their businesses, Putin told the ‘Strong Ideas for a New Time’ forum, organized by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI).

“Our companies and teams are ready for competition and many of them have already proven this. Talking about monopoly, I meant the Western competitors, of course, which had secured a monopoly in many sectors of the Russian market,” the president explained.

According to Putin, Russian companies can establish their presence in the global market step by step, starting with the markets of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and BRICS nations.

The world has not collapsed because of the sanctions, according to the president. The restrictions imposed on Moscow by the West have opened up new areas of development for Russian companies, he added.

Russian entrepreneurs filed more than 43,000 trademark registration applications in the first five months of this year, Putin noted, praising domestic businesses.

“I can see that some really interesting new things have emerged. It’s a treat to watch, and hopefully not just to watch but also to wear and use.”

Putin called for the creation of an economy that produces its own modern goods, services, and technology instead of consuming foreign, imported products.

He stressed the importance of helping domestic producers to promote their products, so that Russia will have brands that are well known both within the country and globally.

Putin blasted companies that left Russia as a result of Ukraine-related sanctions. He accused some foreign brands of “turning the exit from the Russian market into a PR campaign,” and expressed doubt that these PR strategies will be of any benefit to them.

The ‘Strong Ideas for New Times’ forum is a two-day event taking place at the World Trade Center in Moscow. It aims to identify and support initiatives and projects that will make a meaningful contribution to strengthening Russia’s sovereignty and achieving national goals by 2030.

Nicaragua Interested in Joining BRICS to Promote Multipolar World, Unity - Top Diplomat

Lenka White - Nicaragua is interested in joining BRICS because the bloc promotes a multipolar order and a stronger unity among developing nations, Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada told Sputnik.

"Nicaragua has already expressed its interest in joining BRICS. It’s logical because it's a new way, new world, where developing countries can have better unity and have better development, a better world, a multipolar world," Denis Moncada said.

Managua and Moscow are having conversations with respect to conducting trade in national currencies, including when paying for Russian wheat, Denis Moncada told.

"It's a topic [switching to national currencies] of conversations that is universal among friends that are fighting against US hegemony. These are necessary discussions. This mess started conversations that we're sustaining among our representatives and our banking representatives," Moncada said.

The foreign minister also said Nicaragua would like to pay for Russian wheat in either rubles or cordoba.

In April, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Nicaragua as part of his Latin American tour.

Managua considers the sabotage on the Nord Stream pipeline an act of state terrorism by the West, Moncada said.

"This is a very clear instance of a terrorist act by countries that are enemies of the Russian Federation," Moncada said. "The government of Nicaragua clearly opposes these western attempts to practice state terrorism. And we really believe in the sovereignty of countries."

"It's very clear, which countries execute these acts - the NATO, the USA, their allies - against the countries that are trying to defend their security and severity," Moncada said.

Denmark, Germany and Norway have left Russia out of their investigations into the attack, prompting Moscow to launch its own investigation of charges of international terrorism.

"The UN is an organization that has the goals to contribute to peace, security and stability in the world, and achieve a better world. Obviously, a lot of powers try to instrumentalize it in their favor," Moncada said. "But the peoples are fighting through international law, through the Charter of United Nations to have a full participation in a full UN in a positive way within the Charter or the United Nations trying to modify, refound it, so that we have a UN, that works."

The foreign minister also called on other countries to come together to defend against these measures.

When asked about the plans for the upcoming UN General Assembly high-level week, Moncada pointed out that Nicaragua tries to bring policy, improve solidarity, defend the international law and the UN Charter as well as solidarity with all the countries impacted by unilateral measures, including by the United States and other nations.

Police release body camera footage of officer who fatally shot Texas outlet mall shooter

Police release body camera footage of officer who fatally shot Texas outlet mall shooter

The Allen Police Department released footage Wednesday from the body camera worn by the officer who fatally shot the mass shooter who killed eight people last month at an outlet mall in Allen, Texas.

Mauricio Garcia, 33, started firing an AR-15-style rifle in the parking lot of Allen Premium Outlets on May 6 before making his way through the complex as shoppers and employees ran for cover, authorities said. An Allen police officer on a nearby call responded and fatally shot Garcia.

"This video shows how quickly a routine interaction with the public turned into a life-and-death situation," Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey said in a statement released Wednesday. "The officer recognized the danger, ran toward the gunfire and neutralized the threat - and for his actions, the Allen community is forever grateful."

The video, just over five and a half minutes long, begins with an officer interacting with a family and telling children to remember to wear their seat belts when they hear shots being fired.

The officer quickly responds by calling in for backup as the family hurries away.

"I think we got shots fired at the outlet mall," the officer is heard saying. "People running."

The video then shows the officer returning to his vehicle to retrieve a rifle and then running toward the gunfire, warning people to leave.

"Go, go, get moving," he yelled. "Get out of here!"

As he moves closer to the sound of gunfire, the officer communicates through his radio that there was a mass shooter.

"145, I believe we've got a mass shooter," he said.

The officer could be heard on the video yelling for the shooter to drop his weapon as shots were being fired.

"I'm passing injured," he said.

Video shows the out-of-breath officer making his way close to the sounds of gunshots when he stops and fires his weapon multiple times.

"Shots fired by police, I got him down," he said. He continues firing and yells for the shooter to drop the gun.

The officer moves toward the downed shooter, and a second officer says, "He's dead."

The footage was released following a grand jury hearing Tuesday where a "no bill" was returned indicating that the use of force by police was justified under Texas law.

The video was edited by police to blur out the faces of civilians and victims, and some language has been removed, according to the statement.

The video, which is embedded below, begins with the officer casually talking to a woman and her two children about seatbelt safety. Moments later, the sound of rapid gunfire erupts in the distance. The woman quickly lowers her head and moves her children out of the way as the officer reaches inside his patrol vehicle for a rifle and notifies dispatchers he's heard gunshots.

The officer runs toward the stores, tracking the sounds of gunfire as they grew louder and louder the closer he gets. As he continues moving toward the blasts, shooting at people to leave the area and take cover.

About a minute and 40 seconds after the first shots were heard in the video, the officer reached the outside of the H&M store where he encountered the first victims.

"I believe we've got a mass shooter. I've got a magazine on the ground. I'm passing injured," the officer, growing breathless, could be heard saying into his radio. "I'm moving as fast as I can to try to get over there."

The officer continues to run through the outside galleries of the outlet as the sound of gunfire bursts continues.

About three minutes into the video, the officer fires his first shots at the gunman. As the shooting subsided, the officer then continued to cautiously move toward the gunman while calling out to other officers arriving at the scene.

"I'm moving up on him ... watch your fire! I got him down," the officer said.

Another officer then confirms the gunman is dead.

The video ends with the two officers standing next to the gunman's body, which is blurred out.

Allen Police said they have requested a comprehensive and independent review of the incident by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) to offer insight and best practices for future training and emergency response

EXPERT OPINION

"His actions, words can't really describe what he did and how many lives are saved because of him," said Craig Miller, a retired Dallas Police Deputy Chief and Dallas ISD Chief.

He sat down with NBC 5 to watch the video that is around lasts about 5 minutes and 15 seconds.

"This officer was prepared he did exactly what he needed to do and the reason why so many lives were saved were because of his actions," said Miller.

"We can see from the video there are bodies he's passing, he knows this person is dangerous and he knows in his mind he's not thinking about himself at all, he's really thinking, 'What can I do to stop this person from hurting people,' and that is an unbelievable human trait that he had and he just exemplified what you need to do," said Miller.

He described how the officer, who has not been officially named, went from community policing to dealing with an active shooter.

"It's a day in the life of a police officer, going from zero to 100 and then having to take that shot going back to zero so you can calmly do what you need to do," said Miller.

He also highlighted how the officer contacted dispatch, remained calm, took a minute to think and grabbed his rifle, which proved to be needed regarding the distance at which he shot the gunman.

"The shot that he was able to fire that took him down from that distance was an incredible shot and his actions are so heroic," said Miller.

"In our society today we use 'hero' and 'Rockstar' too liberally, but when I look at this and I see this from having been a police officer for 38 years, I can't imagine what he was doing and the way he was able to remain as calm and do the things that he did," said Miller.

Countries condemn desecration of AlQuran in Sweden

Countries condemn desecration of AlQuran in Sweden

Officials from a number of countries, including many in the Middle East, have condemned the desecration of Al-Quran by a man in Sweden’s capital during a protest authorised by police.

Salwan Momika, a 37-year-old Iraqi who fled to Sweden several years ago, tore up and lit pages of the Islamic holy book on fire on Thursday as Muslims celebrated the Eid al-Adha holiday.

The act outside the Stockholm Central Mosque prompted international condemnation. Here are some of the reactions:

Saudi Arabia

"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia strongly condemns the burning of a Quran by an extremist in front of a central mosque in Stockholm, Sweden. These repeated acts of hatred cannot be accepted regardless of their pretext. They directly contradict international efforts to spread the principles of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and countering extremism. They undermine the mutual respect necessary to build relationships between nations and peoples," the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday

Jordan

Jordan also condemned the act, calling it “racist” and an “incitement”.

“The Ministry affirmed that burning Al-Qur’an is an act of dangerous hate, and a manifestation of Islamophobia that incites violence and insulting religions and cannot be considered a form of freedom of expression at all,” the kingdom said in a statement.

Jordan said rejecting “extremism” is a “collective responsibility that everyone must abide by”.

Kuwait

Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the burning was a “dangerous, provocative step that inflames the feelings of Muslims around the world”.

It called on the international community and governments “to take responsibility for swift action to renounce feelings of hatred, extremism and religious intolerance”.

Morocco

Morocco went beyond a statement of condemnation and recalled its ambassador to Sweden for an indefinite period.

The kingdom’s foreign ministry also called on Sweden’s chargé d’affaires in Rabat and expressed its “strong condemnation of this attack and its rejection of this unacceptable act”, according to state media.

Yemen

The Yemeni government rejected the incident as one “deliberately provoking the feelings of Muslims around the world on holy Islamic occasions by a hateful extremist movement”, a statement by its foreign ministry said.

It also called for an end to the “repeated abuses” stemming from a “culture of hatred”

Egypt

Egypt said Momika’s act was “shameful”, especially since it took place on Eid al-Adha.

The foreign ministry also voiced concern about “repeated incidents” of the burning of A-Quran in Europe.

“Egypt expresses its deep concern about the repeated incidents of burning the Holy Qur’an and the recent escalation of Islamophobia and crimes of blasphemy of religions in some European countries, affirming its total rejection of all reprehensible practices that affect the constants and religious beliefs of Muslims,” it said in a statement.

Lebanon

Lebanon's powerful Iran-backed movement Hezbollah charged the Swedish authorities were "complicit in the crime". Hezbollah called on Sweden to put an end to such acts "rather than hiding behind freedom of speech".

It urged religious authorities and Muslim and Arab nations to take "all the necessary steps" to compel Sweden and other countries to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and stop "the spread of a culture of hate".

Iraq

Iraq called the act “racist” and “irresponsible”, adding that it condemns “the repeated acts of burning copies of Al-Quran by individuals with extremist and disturbed minds”.

“They are not only racist but also promote violence and hatred,” the Iraqi government said in a statement.

Turkey

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called Al-Quran desecration “despicable”.

“It is unacceptable to allow these anti-Islamic actions under the pretext of freedom of expression,” Fidan wrote on Twitter. “Turning a blind eye to such atrocious acts is to be complicit.”

Turkey’s condemnation carries weight. The country is blocking Sweden’s NATO membership bid over what it sees as Stockholm’s failure to crack down on Kurdish groups it considers “terrorists”.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had told Sweden’s leaders at the time: “If you do not show respect to the religious beliefs of the Republic of Turkey or Muslims, you will not receive any support for NATO from us.”

United States

The US Department of State expressed its opposition to the burning of the Quran while also urging Turkey to approve Sweden’s NATO bid.

“The burning of religious texts is disrespectful and hurtful, and what might be legal is certainly not necessarily appropriate,” spokesperson Vedant Patel said.

“Broadly, we continue to encourage Hungary and Turkey to ratify the accession protocol of Sweden without delay.”
