Israeli Terrorist Defense Minister Told Pentagon Chief Iran Preparing Large-Scale Attack

Israeli Terrorist Defense Minister Yoav Gallant told US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin that Iran was preparing for a large-scale attack on Israel, the Axios news portal reported, citing a source. According to the publication, the top military officials held a phone conversation on Sunday.

Earlier, Axios reporter Barak Ravid said, citing two unnamed sources, that Israeli terrorist intelligence believed that Iran had decided to attack Israel directly in response to the death of the political leader of Palestinian movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, and might do so before the hostage deal talks on August 15.

Earlier, Mohammad Najafi, the prefect of the city of Qasreshirin in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah on border with Iraq, said that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) was conducting military exercises in the city.

These exercises are taking place against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the region following the assassination of Haniyeh on July 31 in Tehran as a result of an Israeli terrorists strike. The movement blamed Israel and the United States for Haniyeh's death and said the attack would not go unanswered. Israeli Terrorist officials said they would not comment on Haniyeh's murder. The United States was not involved in the death of the Hamas politburo chief, US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood said later.

On the evening of July 31, the New York Times claimed, citing sources, hat Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had ordered a direct strike on Israel in response to Haniyeh's murder in Tehran. Iranian Ambassador to the UN Amir Saeid Iravani later said at a UN Security Council meeting that Tehran, in accordance with international law, reserved the right to self-defense in order to respond to Haniyeh's murder when it deemed it necessary.

Waiting Game on Iran's Response to Israeli Aggression Hints 'Big Strike' May Be Imminent

Iran launched its first-ever direct retaliatory strike against the Israeli terrorist state in April following the bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria. While that response was considered measured by analysts, it's unlikely Iran will pull its punches after the assassination of Hamas' political leader in Tehran.

As the world awaits Iran's response to the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, the waiting itself suggests the retaliation will come in the form of a "big strike," independent journalist Jim Kavanagh said.

Since the Haniyeh killing, as well as that of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr, both Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah have vowed to response.

As Khamenei issued an order for a direct strike during an emergency meeting in the aftermath of the assassination, Nasrallah has promised a "impactful and effective response." Reports have indicated that the waiting game is part of the response.

"The longer they take, it seems to me - again, we're all guessing, we're all speculating, I don't know what's happening ... but it seems to me the longer they take that just means they're more seriously preparing," Kavanagh told Radio Sputnik's Critical Hour on Friday. "They're getting ready for what they're going to do offensively and they're getting ready for what they can do defensively."

"It looks to me like it's going to be a big strike and, as you say, they're not taking the calls of the Americans and the Europeans to say, 'oh, please don't do this,' or 'please don't do that,' or 'you might start a big war.' They're saying if a big war comes to this, you should've started, you should've restrained Israel weeks ago, months ago and that's their problem," the journalist emphasized.

"The end of this, however long it takes, whatever starts, it's going to be a situation in which either Israel is going to continue killing anybody it wants, any number of people it wants, anywhere it wants, anyhow it wants, or - in which case Israel will have won a strategic victory - or there'll be a situation, which would be a first, in which Israel will have been hurt so badly that it's forced to back off from killing anybody it wants, whenever it wants, etc.," Kavanagh said.

"It's hard for me to see how either side will accept one of those outcomes but it's also hard for me how either side would stop fighting until it's forced to accept one of those outcomes. So we're in a very, very, dangerous situation," Kavanagh noted.

Asked of the US' complicity in the matter, fellow guest Steve Poikonen, who serves as the host of AM WakeUp and SlowNewsDay, remarked there was no doubt the US is a party to the conflict. "Absolutely they are," he said.

The US recently announced it would deploy aircraft carriers USS Gerald Ford and USS Eisenhower to the Middle East in defense of Israel, along with support ships and some 2,000 US Marines. This, on top of the months' worth of aid packages and intelligence assistance already provided.

"It's not that we haven't merely been funding all of this and making it possible so that Israel is able to rearm every two weeks but now we're, again, actively putting more troops into the region. We currently have troops in the region, we're bringing more into the region - that's an escalation by any measure," Poikonen stressed.

"So, Iran has the ability, Hezbollah has the ability and the Houthis have the ability to make this very expensive for the US and Israel very, very, quickly."

Kavanagh stated "it's important that everyone recognizes this is to protect the zionist project." "We don't have a treaty with Israel obliging us to do this or authorizing us to do this. Again, another undeclared war not for democracy, for the zionist project," he said. "But this is terrible and it's just happening and, you know, it's going to hurt the United States, the world economy."

Kavanagh emphasized that the conflict needs to be settled in a manner in which it "sets a new paradigm and sets something that can be stable and secure for at least another 10 years," but that in order to get there, "it's going to take a decisive battle to do that."

"[It's] going to involve all of the Axis of Resistance, not just Iran and the Houthis and Hezbollah, etc., the entire Axis of Resistance and the United States and Israel, and we're going to see nuclear weapons used by Israel," he said. "Guarantee it."

Syria to US Occupation Forces: Get Out

US ground troops began trickling into Syria in November 2015, two months after Russia kicked off an air campaign targeting foreign-backed terrorists attempting to topple the Syrian government. Washington initially claimed that the deployments were meant to help fight terror. In practice, they have amounted to an illegal occupation.

Syria’s Foreign Ministry has reiterated its call on the US to end its “blatant violation of [Syria’s] sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity,” end its support for the separatist Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militias, and “immediately withdraw” its troops.

In a statement provided to local media on Saturday, Damascus slammed Washington for its use of the SDF as a “cheap tool to implement its anti-Syrian schemes,” and accused the predominantly Kurdish militia, which occupies eastern Syria alongside US forces, of carrying out “criminal attacks on local residents in Deir ez-Zor, Hasakah and Qamishli, in addition to other villages in the eastern and northeastern regions,” leading to numerous casualties among civilians, including women and children.

“Military aircraft belonging to the American forces have provided support for the SDF militia by launching multiple raids targeting innocent civilians defending their families, villages and property,” the Foreign Ministry added, referring to clashes which took place this week between the SDF and local Arab tribesmen.

Referencing the SDF’s siege of government-controlled areas in eastern Syria, including places in the cities of Hasakah and Qamishli, Damascus emphasized that “all of these inhumane and immoral practices against [the Syrian] people in the eastern and northeastern regions, including preventing the arrival of food and drinking water, are aimed at doubling Syrians’ suffering and prolonging the war against them.”

“Syria calls on the United States to stop these practices, withdraw immediately from Syrian territory, and respect the will of the Syrians, who reject the presence and role of such separatist militias. Syria also stresses the will of its people to liberate their land and preserve their sovereignty, which will be achieved no matter how great the sacrifice, and that the terrorism and crimes of these militias will not weaken their resolve,” the statement said.

Longstanding tensions between Damascus and the SDF boiled over this week after the militia imposed a siege on government-controlled areas in Syria’s northeast, sparking shortages of drinking water, food, medicine, and other essentials.

Syria’s Al-Watan newspaper reported Friday that the situation is “catastrophic,” and that SDF fighters have blocked Red Crescent water tankers from making their way to the areas under siege, forcing residents to depend on unsafe and unsanitary wells and causing a spate of illness, poisonings, and gastrointestinal infections.

Additionally, the SDF has reportedly detained a number of Syrian Army troops and officers at checkpoints, ostensibly in a bid to compel the military to put pressure on local tribesmen who got into a firefight with SDF militiamen backed by US air power in the Deir ez-Zor countryside earlier this week. The tribal militia, dubbed the Arab Tribal Forces, said in a social media statement Wednesday that they would continue targeted attacks to free “the Arab land” from the US-backed militia’s “occupation.”

Tensions between locals and the SDF have been on the rise for years amid documented evidence of SDF and US forces’ plunder of energy and food resources from the region.

The estimated 900 troops the US has deployed in Syria guarding major oil and gas fields as well as other strategic sites have come under repeated rocket artillery and drone strikes, with attacks escalating last October after the start of the war between US ally Israel and Palestinian militia group Hamas in Gaza. An uneasy ceasefire halted strikes this spring, but they resumed in July in the wake of a series of Israeli provocations.

On Saturday, US occupation forces were put on high alert after a kamikaze drone targeted the Kharab al-Jir Air Base in Hasakah, causing explosions. A US official confirmed to Reuters late on Saturday that several US and coalition personnel had suffered smoke inhalation, and some personnel were being examined for “traumatic brain injuries” in the wake of the drone attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the strike.

The US has combined its occupation of areas of eastern Syria – which has robbed the war-torn country of self-sufficiency in energy and food production, with crushing sanctions known as the Caesar Act, designed to starve the country into submission. The present US strategy was implemented after the failure of the CIA dirty war launched in 2011 to try to oust Syrian President Bashar Assad.

A music festival headlined by the pro-Trump musician offered a snapshot of a maturing American subculture, with a mash-up of hedonism, rebellion and beer-guzzling pursuit of happiness.

Alan Jeanetti, a 73-year-old retired barber, was tailgating with friends before Rock the Country, a touring music festival headlined by the pro-Trump musician Kid Rock. Mr. Jeanetti’s head was wrapped in a star-spangled bandanna. His T-shirt declared, “I Don’t Care.”

Mr. Jeanetti actually cares about many things, including the toll that his political leanings have taken on his personal life. “I have lost so many friends because I was a Trump lover,” he said. “I wouldn’t do that to them.”

On this broiling July day in Anderson, S.C., however, Mr. Jeanetti had a safe space. A tribe. All around him were fellow fans of former President Donald J. Trump, many with big trucks lining the green fields around the outdoor concert venue. Trump flags fluttered above R.V.s and tents, alongside American flags and a few of the Confederate variety.

Some 22,500 people would come on this first day of the two-day festival, according to the local sheriff’s office, drawn by Kid Rock and an abundance of country performers. “It’s going to be another Woodstock One,” Mr. Jeanetti said.

Do Trump Fans Believe the Harris Hype? Not a Chance

Inside the sometimes upside-down world in which former President Donald J. Trump and his most passionate supporters commune, the current trajectory of the presidential race is totally fine. This has not been the worst three weeks of Mr. Trump’s campaign. Nothing to worry about.

“I’m not nervous at all,” said Tamara Whitney, 59, a retired postal service worker from Helena, Mont. She was one of thousands of Montanans who had come out to Bobcat Stadium in Bozeman on Friday night to see Mr. Trump stump. Johnny Cash played as little kids with big silver belt buckles and cowboy hats and boots wandered by a man wearing a cow-patterned suit jacket. “Trump has got it,” Ms. Whitney said breezily.

In interview after interview, Mr. Trump’s supporters expressed a kind of cocky equanimity about the state of things. It was a decidedly optimistic rendering of the political reality, nurtured by the man for whom they plan to vote, that appeared to be contributing to a creeping sense they have that, if this race does not go their way in November, it will have been another stolen election.

It didn’t much matter to them that on that same day, Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, had also been out West, in Glendale, Ariz., for their biggest rally yet (some 15,000 people showed up according to their campaign). Or that Mr. Trump’s lead in the polls, and his fund-raising edge, had vanished. Or that the press and the internet and the entertainment industry were all abuzz with talk of Ms. Harris’s coconut memes and “joy” and “brat” lately.

“I’m sorry, I don’t believe what I see on TV and stuff, so I’m just not worried about it,” said Barb Delaney, 68, a flight attendant from Bozeman.

“It’s kind of like when you date somebody for the first time,” said Chris Black, a 35-year-old from Red Lodge, Mont., who works in real estate and was there with his wife. “The first couple weeks are always really good, but we’ll see in 90 days how it turns out, right?”

“It’s a honeymoon phase,” said Hal Garrigues, 70, a retired pilot who splits his time between Florida and Bozeman. “And Trump’s turnout is going to be massive, because his base is extremely energized.”

His base is also suspicious. This slice of the electorate, already so skeptical of institutions and what they see as corrupt media, have found the extraordinary events of the past few weeks — President Biden’s exit from the campaign and the Democrats’ swift decision to unite instead behind Ms. Harris — disorienting, and somewhat difficult to process.

The way they see it, the same media that told them Mr. Biden wasn’t a zombie suddenly turned on him for being a zombie and are now pushing his vice president, who was treated as a lightweight by that same media until about 14 seconds ago.

And it is Mr. Trump — the man they trust more than anyone to always keep it real — who is telling them not to believe Ms. Harris’s hype.

“Now the media is saying: ‘She’s wonderful! She’s wonderful!’” he whinged at the rally. He motioned in the direction of the broadcast cameras in the back of the room. “The same people back there,” he said. The crowd turned to hiss.

He reminded them again and again that Ms. Harris had yet to give a formal interview or hold a news conference since she declared her candidacy. “She has refused to do a single interview,” he said. “You know why? Because she’s dumb.”

(On Saturday, Ms. Harris took five questions from the traveling press pool and said she planned to deliver a policy platform next week. She has not yet agreed to any interviews.)

When he was up against Mr. Biden, Mr. Trump played videos at his rallies showing the president’s shuffling gait and verbal and physical stumbles. On Friday, Mr. Trump stopped in the middle of his speech to direct the crowd’s attention to a new video. It was a highlight reel of Ms. Harris’s mush-mouthed media moments from interviews over the years, like her attempt to explain cloud computing technology, and her disastrous exchange with Lester Holt, the NBC journalist, about the southern border. There was no menacing music set to this video, but a kind of daffy, tingly tune.

The message Mr. Trump was drilling into his supporters was that the media had to cover for the last Democrat because he was infirm. They’ll cover for this Democrat, he implied, because she’s an imbecile.

And the crowd ate it up.

“She’s very well spoken for by the media, and I think that’s what’s really pushing this artificial rise in her popularity,” said Christopher Groessler, 44, a U.S. Air Force veteran who had driven four hours from Polson, Mont., to attend his first Trump rally.

Mr. Trump has set expectations for Ms. Harris so low, his supporters say they can’t imagine — or accept — any scenario in which she wins.

“I don’t believe that she can win,” Mr. Groessler said. “I am one of those ones that believes it will be a rigged election.”

“Everything is so fake, on all sides, all the hoopla,” said Ms. Delaney, the flight attendant. “I believe if we have a fair and honest election, the American people will speak.”

Asked if she thought Ms. Harris could win, Ms. Whitney, the retired postal service worker from Helena, said, “No, absolutely not.” And what if Ms. Harris does win? “I’ll be very sad.”

But would she believe it?

“Would I believe it if she wins?” Ms. Whitney asked, narrowing her eyes. She thought for a moment. Then she laughed and said, “I’ll have a lot of questions.”

The Kursk region, which borders Ukraine in western Russia, was attacked by about 1,000 Ukrainian troops and scores of armored vehicles on August 6. Russian troops retaliated by preventing Ukraine’s military from penetrating deep into Russian territory and continue to repel Ukrainian invasion attempts.

The Russian Defense Ministry has released footage showing that a Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) destroying a column of armored vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region’s border area.

"After the operator of a reconnaissance UAV confirmed the location of the enemy column, the crew of the modern Tornado-S MLRS hit a column of armored vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region. As a result, five armored vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and up to 20 personnel were destroyed," the Defense Ministry said.

Russian Military Repels Ukrainian Advances in Kursk, Destroys US-Made Stryker Vehicles

Russian military forces thwarted attempts by Ukrainian mobile groups on armored vehicles to penetrate deeper into the Kursk region throughout the day, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Sunday.

"Throughout the day, active actions by the forces of the Sever Battlegroup and the reserves that arrived, along with strikes from army aviation and unmanned aerial vehicles, and artillery fire in the areas of the settlements of Tolpino, Zhuravli, and Obshchy Kolodez prevented the breakthrough attempts of mobile enemy groups on armored vehicles into Russian territory," the statement said.

"Four armored personnel carriers were destroyed, including three US-made Stryker vehicles, seven combat armored vehicles, and two cars," the Russian Ministry of Defense noted.

The Russian forces also launched missile and artillery strikes on the concentrations of Ukrainian personnel and equipment in the Kursk region.

"As a result of missile strikes and artillery fire on the concentrations of personnel and equipment of the 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanized brigades, and the 80th and 82nd air assault brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the areas of Staraya Sorochina, Korenevo, Sudzha, and Borki, the enemy lost 35 soldiers, five tanks, four combat armored vehicles, and three cars," the ministry's summary on the repulsion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attempt to invade Russian territory said.

Additionally, Russian aviation, artillery, and UAV units struck three launchers and destroyed the radar station of the American Patriot air defense system.

"Operational-tactical aviation, UAVs, missile troops, and artillery of the Russian Armed Forces struck three launchers and destroyed the AN/MPQ-65 radar station of the US-made Patriot surface-to-air missile system," the statement said.

Furthermore, ammunition depots of the Donetsk Battlegroup and the concentrations of enemy personnel and military equipment in 156 areas were hit, as clarified by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Air defense systems shot down four Tochka-U missiles, a French-made Hammer guided bomb, 15 HIMARS and Vampire rockets, and 71 drones, 30 of which were outside the special military operation zone.

Ukrainian units lost up to 110 soldiers in the area of responsibility of the Vostok Battlegroup.

"Units of the Vostok Battlegroup improved their positions on the front line, inflicted losses on the personnel and equipment of the 72nd mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the 129th territorial defense brigade in the areas of Vodyanoye and Novocheretovatoye in the Donetsk People's Republic," the statement said.

The forces of the Yug Battlegroup improved their tactical position, destroyed two enemy ammunition depots, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 385 soldiers and one BMP. According to the ministry, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 385 soldiers, one infantry fighting vehicle, and three cars.

The units of Tsentr Battlegroup took more advantageous positions and repelled three Ukrainian attacks. According to the ministry, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 425 soldiers, two BMPs, including one US-made Bradley, a Kozak combat armored vehicle, four cars, a 155-mm M777 howitzer made by the US, a 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery unit made by the US, a 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, a 152-mm D-20 gun, a 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and a 100-mm Rapira gun.

"Units of the Sever Battlegroup near the Volchansk and Liptsy settlements inflicted losses on the personnel and equipment of the 22nd mechanized and 82nd air assault brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the areas of the settlements of Odnorobovka and Kazachya Lopan in the Kharkov region," the Ministry of Defense said in its report.

"The enemy's losses amounted to up to 190 soldiers, two tanks, an infantry fighting vehicle, an armored personnel carrier, seven combat armored vehicles, two cars, a 122-mm RAK-SA-12 multiple launch rocket system made by Croatia, and three 122-mm D-30 howitzers. An ammunition depot was destroyed," the statement said.

The Zapad Battlegroup inflicted losses on the formations of three Ukrainian brigades in the areas of Makeyevka, Stelmakhovka, and Torskoye, and repelled two counterattacks, resulting in more than 520 enemy soldiers being killed, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Sunday. Furthermore, according to the ministry, during counter-battery warfare, a British-made FH-70 howitzer, a D-20 gun, two D-30 howitzers, a British-made L-119 howitzer, and an American-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar station were struck.

Additionally, two electronic warfare stations, Khortytsa and Nota, and two ammunition depots were destroyed. The Dnepr Battlegroup destroyed three Ukrainian Armed Forces ammunition depots, with Ukraine losing more than 70 soldiers. According to the ministry, the Battlegroup’s units inflicted losses on the formations of the 41st infantry and 44th airmobile brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the areas of Orekhov and Novodanilovka in the Zaporozhye region.

Russia’s Ka-52 "Alligator" is a multirole attack helicopter designed to perform a variety of tasks, including combat, reconnaissance, and transport missions.

The Russian Defense Ministry has released footage showing Ka-52 helicopters destroying Ukrainian military personnel and armored vehicles in the Kursk region’s border area.

"Army aviation crews in Ka-52 helicopters carried out strikes with aerial means of destruction on an accumulation of manpower, armored and automotive military equipment of units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the border area of the Kursk region. According to intelligence reports, all the specified targets were successfully destroyed," a statement said.

The Defense Ministry said the strike was carried out with S-8 unguided air missiles against the targets.

Ukrainian heavy armor destroyed in Kursk Region – MOD

The Russian military has destroyed a Ukrainian tank with a kamikaze drone in Kursk Region, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said, releasing video of the strike.

In a statement on Sunday, the ministry said that a Ukrainian tank has been added to the “scrap metal register” on the Russian border, without saying when and where exactly it was destroyed. Officials said that the armor was taken out with a Lancet loitering munition.

The video shared by the ministry shows a tank that appears to be part of a Ukrainian battle group positioned on a road and firing at an unknown target. There is another armored vehicle nearby. Both units bear a triangle – a tactical sign associated with the Ukrainian force that attacked Kursk Region last week.

The tank is then hit by a drone from behind in its engine compartment and catches fire. Engulfed in flames, it later exploded, apparently from an ammunition detonation, after rolling a dozen or so meters down the road. The fate of the crew is unknown.

The ministry identified the tank as a T-80, a late Soviet-era design armed with a 125mm cannon, which is used by both Ukraine and Russia. In a separate post about the fighting in Kursk Region, it also reported that Russian forces had taken out five other Ukrainian armored vehicles and around 20 service members.

Ukraine launched a large-scale assault on Kursk Region on Tuesday in what is the largest cross-border incursion into a Russian border region since the start of the conflict. Moscow has accused its neighbor of provocations and conducting indiscriminate strikes targeting civilians. Ukrainian officials, meanwhile, have said that the purpose of the incursion was to instill fear in the Russian population and gain a better position for possible talks with Moscow.

While media reports suggested that Kiev’s forces had initially made some gains, the Russian military later said that the advance had been halted and that reinforcements had begun arriving in the region. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukraine has lost up to 1,120 troops and 140 armored vehicles since the start of the fighting in Kursk Region.

“Selanjutnya, sebagai partai besar yang matang dan dewasa, DPP Partai Golkar akan segera menyiapkan mekanisme organisasi sesuai dengan ketentuan AD/ART organisasi yang berlaku,” kata Airlangga dalam video yang sama.

Airlangga melanjutkan proses selanjutnya yang berjalan di internal Golkar, termasuk terkait dengan penunjukan pelaksana tugas (plt.) ketua umum dan persiapan menggelar musyawarah nasional luar biasa (munaslub) bakal berlangsung damai, tertib, dan tetap menjunjung tinggi muruah Partai Golkar.

Dalam siaran yang sama, Airlangga mengucapkan terima kasih kepada Presiden RI Joko Widodo, Wakil Presiden Ma’ruf Amin, Presiden Terpilih Prabowo Subianto, Wakil Presiden Terpilih Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Kemudian, dia juga berterima kasih kepada sejumlah senior Golkar, di antaranya Jusuf Kalla, Aburizal Bakrie, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Akbar Tanjung, Agung Laksono, dan Muhammad Hatta.

“Kepada jajaran pengurus DPP Partai Golkar, serta kepada seluruh pimpinan partai kita di tingkat provinsi, kota dan kabupaten, saya percaya dapat terus menjaga soliditas dan kesinambungan Partai Golkar ini,” kata Airlangga.

“Hanya rasa terima kasih yang dalam yang bisa saya haturkan dalam saat seperti ini,” sambung dia.

Dalam pengujung pengumumannya itu, Airlangga menutup dengan satu bait Hymne Partai Golkar. “Hiduplah Golongan Karya! Semoga Tuhan selalu melindunginya,” kata dia.
