Attackers gunned down a mayor, his father and 16 other people in the southern Mexico state of Guerrero on Wednesday, authorities said.
State Attorney General Sandra Luz Valdovinos told Milenio television late Wednesday that 18 people were killed and two were wounded in the town of San Miguel Totolapan. Among the dead were Mayor Conrado Mendoza and his father, a former mayor of the town, she said. Two additional people were wounded
Later Wednesday, in the neighboring state of Morelos, a state lawmaker was shot to death in the city of Cuernavaca south of Mexico City.
While attacks on public officials are not uncommon in Mexico, these come at a time when the security strategy of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is being sharply debated. The president has placed tremendous responsibility on the armed forces rather than civilian police for reining in Mexico’s persistently high levels of violence.
San Miguel Totolapan is a remote township in Tierra Caliente, which is one of Mexico’s most conflict-ridden areas, disputed by multiple drug trafficking gangs.
In 2016, Totolapan locals fed up with abductions by the local gang “Los Tequileros” kidnapped the gang leader’s mother to leverage the release of others.
In Cuernavaca, Morelos State Attorney General Uriel Carmona said two armed men traveling on a motorcycle fatally shot state Deputy Gabriela Marín as she exited a vehicle.
Local outlets said Marín, a member of the Morelos Progress party, was killed at a pharmacy in Cuernavaca. A person with Marín was reportedly wounded in the attack.
Morelos Gov. Cuauhtémoc Blanco condemned the attack and said via Twitter that security forces were deployed in search of the attackers.
The deaths of Mendoza and Marín brought the number of mayors killed during López Obrador’s administration to 18 and the number of state lawmakers to eight, according to data from Etellekt Consultores.
Mexico’s Congress this week is debating the president’s proposal to extend the military’s policing duties to 2028. Last month, lawmakers approved López Obrador’s push to transfer the ostensibly civilian National Guard to military control.

Sebuah motor gede atau moge terpajang di area pameran West Java Investment Summit 2022 yang digelar di Kantor Perwakilan Bank Indonesia Provinsi Jabar, Kota Bandung.
Moge bergaya bobber itu merupakan prototipe motor listrik rancangan Gubernur Jawa Barat Ridwan Kamil. Ia sengaja merancang moge berdaya listrik itu untuk sebuah merek motor listrik.
"Motor ini dinamakan RKG 5000, kependekan dari Ridwan Kamil Gesit 5000," kata Atep Supriadi, teknisi dan pelaksana rancang bangun motor Bobber RKG 5000 di arena pameran WJIS 2022.
Atep menjelaskan motor tersebut baru berupa prototipe satu unit, akan tetapi motor itu sudah diuji coba jalan.
"Ini prototipe, jadi baru ada satu, tapi motor ini sudah bisa jalan. Jika masyarakat banyak yang berminat, nantinya bisa diproduksi massal atau dimanufaktur," ujarnya.
Dibandingkan dengan motor sejenis berbahan bahan bakar bensin, menurut Atep, bobot motor listrik RKG 5000 lebih ringan karena tak ada mesin. "Karena tidak ada mesin, maka motor ini total berbobot 150 kilogram, cukup nyaman, dan mudah dikendarai," katanya.
Dengan listrik berdaya 450 VA, baterai motor listrik RKG 5000 ini sudah bisa diisi penuh.
"Motor ini bisa di-charge (isi daya listrik) di rumah dengan daya terendah sekalipun yaitu 450 VA, dan tentu bisa juga di SPKLU (Stasiun Pengisian Kendaraan Listrik Umum), dengan lama pengisian hingga penuh antara tiga sampai empàt jam," kata Atep.
Menurut Atep, yang lebih membanggakan, selain motor ini khusus dirancang oleh Gubernur Ridwan Kamil, RKG 5000 juga merupakan karya anak bangsa dari sisi rancang bangun.

Brazil's Lula and Bolsonaro face run-off after surprisingly tight result
Brazil's election is going into a second round in which left-winger Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will face far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro. With almost all the votes counted, Lula had won 48% against Bolsonaro's 43%, a much closer result than opinion polls had suggested.
But Lula fell short of the more than 50% of valid votes needed to prevent a run-off. Voters now have four weeks to decide which of the two should lead Brazil.
Winning outright in the first round was always going to be a tall order for any candidate, the last time it happened was 24 years ago, but President Bolsonaro and Lula had given their supporters hope that they could achieve just that.
Both candidates can and will claim this as a victory, though. Lula has already said that this is a "mere delay" on his way to the presidency.
For the 76-year-old former metal worker - who could not run in the 2018 election because he was in prison after being convicted on corruption charges which were later annulled, this spells a remarkable comeback.
President Bolsonaro, whom opinion polls had shown trailing far behind Lula, will rejoice in the fact that he proved the pollsters wrong, just as he had predicted he would. This is a drama which has been years in the making. The two men are arch-rivals and spent much of the campaign trading insults.
In the last TV debate before the vote, President Bolsonaro called Lula a thief, in reference to the corruption charges that put him in jail for 580 days before the conviction was annulled.
Lula, who has always maintained that the charges against him were politically motivated, has labelled Mr Bolsonaro a madman. Not surprisingly, that tension has filtered down into the streets. During the nights before the vote, neighbours here in Rio could be heard shouting "Lula is a thief" and "Out with Bolsonaro" at each other. Since the two candidates are such polar opposites, much is at stake.
Lula says he will bolster measures to protect the Amazon rainforest, while Mr Bolsonaro has argued that parts of the rainforest should be opened up to economic exploitation. Deforestation and forest fires have soared during President Bolsonaro's time in office. Climate activists have warned that if he is re-elected, the area could reach a tipping point.
Critics point out that Lula's environmental record during his time in office, he governed Brazil from 2003 to 2010, was far from perfect.
But with Mr Bolsonaro counting on the agricultural sector and agribusiness for votes and support, it is Lula who is the preferred choice of climate activists. However, voters in Brazil have many other pressing concerns, such as rising food prices, which have contributed to an increase in poverty and hunger.
Mr Bolsonaro acknowledged these concerns in a statement after the results were out. "I understand that a lot of the vote was down to the situation the Brazilian people are in. They are feeling the price rises, especially those of basic goods. I do understand that there's a desire for change but some change can be for the worse," he warned
Many voters also mentioned education and Brazil's high levels of inequality as issues they want the new president to tackle. Much of the campaign, however, was overshadowed by concern that Mr Bolsonaro may not accept defeat after he had said that "only God" could remove him from office.
He had also cast doubts on Brazil's electronic voting system, alleging - without providing any evidence, that it was open to fraud. With the result much more favourable to him than predicted, he is now likely to concentrate more on how to sway those voters who cast their ballot for one of the other nine candidates who were eliminated in the first round.
All eyes will now be on centrist Senator Simone Tebet, who came third in the election with 4%, and centre-left candidate Ciro Gomes, who came fourth with 3%. Both said that they would announce "in the coming days" who they would throw their weight behind for the run-off.
Lula, who seems to thrive on overcoming obstacles, has already announced that "the fight continues until the final victory, that's our motto".

Komandan Pleton C Sektor Tambora, Dadang Hamid mengatakan, dirinya tetap bersyukur meski ia dan anak buahnya menjadi korban prank laporan palsu kebakaran di RW 09 Kalianyar, Tambora, Jakarta Barat.
Prank laporan kebakaran ini dialami petugas Damkar sektor Tambora Sudin Gulkarmat Jakbar pada Sabtu (1/10/2022) lalu. Peristiwa ini viral usai akun Instagram @lensa_berita_jakarta mengunggahnya.
"Petugas Damkar sektor Tambora Sudin Gulkarmat Jakbar mendapat laporan palsu atau hoax terkait kebakaran di kawasan RW 09 Kalianyar, Tambora, Jakarta Barat. Sebayak 8 unit mobil pemadam dan 40 personel sudah tiba di lokasi," tulis akun tersebut dikutip Suara.com, pada hari Rabu, 05/10/2022.
Kedatangan sejumlah mobil dan puluhan personel damkar itu sontak saja menghebohkan warga sekitar.
Dadang sendiri mengaku legowo walau jadi korban prank laporan palsu kebakaran. Ia bersyukur karena ternyata tidak terjadi kebakaran di wilayah tersebut.
"Kesal sih nggak, karena kami kan berbuat untuk masyarakat. Bersyukur sih, karena Alhamdulillah tidak terjadi apa-apa," ujarnya saat ditemui di kawasan Tambora.
Kronologi Prank
Dadang menceritakan kronologi prank itu terjadi. Saat itu anak buahnya mendapat laporan terjadinya kebakaran di RW 09 Kalianyar Tambora Jakarta Barat.
Dari sambungan telepon, Dadang mengatakan laporan tersebut merupakan suara dari seorang wanita.
"Si penelepon tergesa-gesa seakan benar-benar kejadian, dengan alamat tepat pula. Kami respons cepat karena takut cepat menyebar," kata Dadang.
Mendapat laporan itu, lanjut Dadang, pihaknya langsung bergegas. Terlebih Tambora dikenal sebagai wilayah dengan permukiman yang padat penduduk.
"Kami respons cepat, saat tiba ternyata kosong. Kita luncurkan 4 unit di Tambora," ungkap Dadang.
Dadang pun berharap agar masyarakat tidak usah bermain-main dengan laporan palsu, lantaran hal itu jelas bakal merugikan jika ada aduan benar-benar terjadi kebakaran.
"Kalau jengkel sedikit ada. Jengkel tapi bersyukur karena (situasi ternyata) aman terkendali," pungkasnya.

OPEC+ setuju untuk memangkas produksi minyak secara tajam pada hari Rabu, membatasi pasokan di pasar yang sudah ketat, menyebabkan salah satu bentrokan terbesarnya dengan Barat karena pemerintah AS menyebut keputusan mengejutkan itu picik.
Pemimpin de facto OPEC Arab Saudi mengatakan pemotongan 2 juta barel per hari (bph) output – sama dengan 2 persen dari pasokan global – diperlukan untuk menanggapi kenaikan suku bunga di Barat dan ekonomi global yang lebih lemah.
Kerajaan itu menolak kritik bahwa mereka berkolusi dengan Rusia, yang termasuk dalam kelompok OPEC+, untuk mendorong harga lebih tinggi dan mengatakan Barat sering didorong oleh “arogansi kekayaan” ketika mengkritik kelompok tersebut.
Gedung Putih mengatakan Presiden Joe Biden akan terus menilai apakah akan merilis stok minyak strategis lebih lanjut untuk menurunkan harga.

The response from the Biden administration and the domestic oil and gas industry was swift after OPEC+ ministers announced on Wednesday an agreement to further reduce the cartel’s oil exports by two million barrels of oil per day (bopd).
The reductions double the one million barrel cut that had been anticipated over the previous week. The agreement came despite pre-meeting warnings from the Biden administration that the U.S. would consider deep production cuts a “total disaster” and a “hostile act,” according to CBS News.
Such pushback from the U.S. administration is unprecedented during the 6-year history of the OPEC+ group.
Since its formation in November, 2016, the cartel has made no secret that its purpose is to exert influence over oil markets to ensure a robust price for crude.
When OPEC+ started, then-President Barack Obama, made no similar statements despite the fact that he and his Vice President, Joe Biden, fully understood that more robust crude oil prices would inevitably mean U.S. consumers would pay higher prices for gasoline at the pump.
Similarly, then-President Donald Trump also avoided any similar aggressive language in response to the announcement by OPEC+ in mid-2020 that it would implement a massive cut of eight million barrels of oil in response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump officials remained restrained despite the fact that Trump was then in the midst of a bitter re-election campaign, and so did his opponent that year, Joe Biden.
But today, with the mid-term elections barely a month away and with Democrats fighting to hold onto their razor-thin majorities in both houses of congress, U.S. restraint in the face of a cut that is a fraction of the 2020 reduction has suddenly disappeared.
White House and Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told Fox News said in response to the OPEC+ announcement, the U.S. needs to become less dependent on foreign oil.
"We absolutely do agree that we need to be less dependent on OPEC+ and foreign producers of resources like oil," Kirby said.
Kirby speaks for a President and administration that have spent the last 21 months doing everything in their power to inhibit domestic U.S. oil production.
At the same time, the President and his advisors have repeatedly pleaded with foreign producers like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and even Venezuela to put more of their own crude onto the open market whenever U.S. gasoline prices have spiked.
But the irony of today’s remarks appears to be lost on the White House. In a statement in response to the OPEC+ announcement, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and NEC Director Brian Deese said the President is “disappointed” in what they called a “shortsighted decision by OPEC+ to cut production quotas.”
Both of Biden advisors also promised that “the Biden Administration will...consult with Congress on additional tools and authorities to reduce OPEC’s control over energy prices.”
But the irony of the administration’s self-created predicament was not lost on fossil fuel advocate Alex Epstein, author of the best-selling book “Fossil Future,” who tweeted that “The Biden Administration is calling an OPEC production cut a ‘hostile act.’ But if it hadn’t been been for the hundred+ ‘hostile acts’ toward the US oil industry of President Joe ‘I guarantee you, we’re going to end fossil fuel’ Biden we wouldn’t be so vulnerable to OPEC.”
Nor was the irony of the situation lost on Dan Kish, Senior Vice President at the pro-fossil fuels Institute for Energy Research.
"President Biden and his administration have done everything within their power from day one to unilaterally disarm American energy production and he now wants to blame everyone else for his dangerous policies,” says Kish. “His routine is well past getting old, and Americans are going to pay the price for his continuing assault on American energy."
In an email, Tim Stewart, President of the U.S. Oil and Gas Association, said “The White House has one option left and it is the one option they should have never turned away from in the first place - the U.S. based oil and gas industry. Life comes at you pretty fast. Unfortunately, the Administration's colossal energy policy failure now constitutes our industry's emergency.”
Other industry leaders expressed similar thoughts.
“OPEC’s decision to cut production is not good news for American families and business who are already struggling with record high inflation, and it reinforces the need for American energy in the world,” said Anne Bradbury, the CEO of the American Exploration and Production Council, an organization representing the nation’s large independent producers.
In an appearance on Fox News, American Petroleum Institute President, Mike Sommers was equally blunt, saying that “This is really bad news for American consumers. The truth of the matter is the dependency on foreign countries for American oil and gas is a choice and it's a choice this administration has made repeatedly.”
Indeed it is a choice, and, in the wake of the August passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill laden with $349 billion in new subsidies for renewables, electric vehicles and other alternatives to oil and gas production, it’s a choice that appears destined to continue in the United States for the duration of Biden’s first term and likely beyond. It is a choice designed in part to raise the cost of energy of all kinds in order to make renewables and EVs more market competitive, consistent with the overarching goals of the energy transition.
If U.S. consumers are frustrated by the rising cost not just of energy, but of all consumer goods right now, they should try to understand that this is what they voted for in 2020, whether they realized it at the time or not. In that campaign, Biden was quite blunt about his plans to “end” U.S. reliance on oil, ban hydraulic fracturing, end offshore drilling and leasing for oil and gas exploration on federal lands and waters, and basically do whatever he can to inhibit domestic mineral energy production.
Biden has worked to keep those commitments made during his campaign, and here we are with the inevitable results. OPEC+ is not the cause of America’s energy situation; its actions are merely a response to it.
Kirmir (tanggul penahan bibir sungai) di tempat pemakaman umum (TPU) Sirnaraga, Kota Bandung ambrol akibat hujan deras yang terjadi pada hari Selasa, 04/10/2022.
Kirmir yang ambrol di TPU Sirnaraga tersebut merupakan pembatas antara jalan setapak dan area pemakaman.
Akibatnya, ada kain kafan yang terlihat menyembul ke tanah di tujuh makam yang berada di lokasi kirmir yang ambrol. Total, ada 25 makam yang terdampak.
"Jadi sebetulnya yang tergerus itu adalah jalan setapak, nah lebarnya sekitar 1,25 meter dan panjangnya 30 meter dan tingginya 3,5 meter, itu lokasi yang longsornya," ujar Kepala UPT Pemakaman Wilayah 3 Dinas Cipta Bintar Kota Bandung, Saeful Iman, hari Rabu, 05/10/2022.
Saeful menyebutkan, akibat jebolnya kirmir di TPU Sirnaraga mengakibatkan 25 makam terdampak. Secara rinci, dari total makam terdampak ada 10 makam yang rusak dan perlu dilakukan penanganan lebih lanjut.
"Nah dari 10 yang rusak itu, ada 7 makam yang kita rencanakan akan kita pindahkan. Terdiri dari dua makam anak-anak dan 2 makam dewasa," jelasnya.
Berdasarkan hasil identifikasi bersama jajaran Polsek Cicendo, Saeful memastikan tidak ada jenazah yang hanyut dalam insiden kirmir jebol di TPU Sirnaraga.
"Yang ada hanyalah ada 3 makam yang bagian dari jenazah itu terlihat karena tanahnya tergerus, kain kafannya. Total Ada 3 makam," lanjutnya.
Selanjutnya, ia akan mendata dan menghubungi pihak keluarga dari 7 makam yang mengalami kerusakan. Menurutnya, pihaknya akan melakukan koordinasi untuk pemindahan jenazah dari lokasi makam saat ini.
"Kita sedang identifikasi makamnya satu-satu dan kita juga bekerja sama dengan warga yang mengetahui ahli warisnya untuk kita hubungi. Jadi kita perkirakan ada 7 makam yang harus kita pindahkan, karena yang 7 itu bisa dibilang cukup parah kerusakannya," tandasnya.
