The air defense system took down two aerial targets over Russia's Belgorod, and there are no casualties, Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Friday.

"Our air defense system worked over Belgorod. Two aerial targets were shot down approaching the city. Operational services are clarifying the situation on the ground. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties," Gladkov said on Telegram.

Kremlin Says Aware of Reports on Drone Shot Down in Voronezh, Verification Underway

The Kremlin saw reports about the situation with a drone in the city of Voronezh, the special services are verifying the information, spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Voronezh Region Governor Alexander Gusev said that three people were injured as a drone fall on the street of the city. Photographs posted on social media show that a multi-storey building received minor damage as a result of the incident.

"We know, we saw reports that it was shot down. And, in fact, an already shot down drone got there. Details are being specified, special services are working," Peskov told reporters, adding that Kiev continues attacks on residential facilities.

Peskov added that Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Sochi, as well as meet with the heads of delegations of CIS and Eurasian Economic Union's (EEU), and plans to talk with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

"Putin is in Sochi today, and he will begin the public part of his working day with an informal conversation with Belarusian President Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko, which will take place at the Bocharov Ruchey (Putin's summer) residence," Kremlin spokesman told.

The president will then travel to Sirius and together with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will meet the heads of foreign delegations who take part in meetings of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the Council of CIS Heads of Government.

"There will be a speech by both Putin and Mishustin, speeches by the heads of foreign delegations. Then Putin will hold a separate working meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan," Peskov said.

Commenting on recent reports about Suadi-American tensions, Peskov stressed that Saudi Arabia is a sovereign state that can make decisions on its own economy and it does not need lectures from anyone, including the United States.

The US news outlet reported on Thursday, citing leaked intelligence, that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman promised major economic implications for the United States last fall after Washington threatened to impose "consequences" on Riyadh for cutting oil production.

"Saudi Arabia is a sovereign state, a responsible state, a very important player in the international energy markets. Of course, this sovereign state can quite sovereignly make decisions that relate to the economy itself. And it is unlikely that anyone, even the United States, can read lectures on what to do in this or that case," Peskov told reporters.

Watch Russian Artillery Obliterate Ukrainian Self-Propelled Howitzer

Artillery is often known as the ‘god of war’ and counter-battery fire, one of the most important assets on the battlefield.

The Russian Armed Forces pinpointed and wiped out a Ukrainian self-propelled howitzer, seen from drone footage. Operated by Kiev regime militants, the howitzer was hidden in the woods and shelled one of the Donetsk regions.

The battlefield tactic, used by Russia, is known as counter-battery fire. This is a set of moves employed to defeat the enemy’s artillery, mortars and multiple rocket launchers. The main challenge is to calculate the point of origin of enemy fire, which is done nowadays via table computers. The Russian army has a vast number of counter-battery tools, including Giatsint guns.

Drone Crashes in Russian City of Voronezh

A drone has fallen in in the Russian city of Voronezh, injuring several people, Alexander Gusev, the region's governor, said on Friday.

Photographs posted on social media show that a multi-storey building received minor damage as a result of the incident. According to preliminary data, three people were lightly injured.

Images purportedly shot at the scene show a wall of the building severely damaged, presumably by the impact.

It cited the company managing the apartment block as saying the injuries received by bystanders were only minor cuts. Several homes were damaged after the drone hit the building between the second and third floors, it added.

Some media reported that the unmanned aircraft was carrying explosives and was intercepted by air defenses before crashing down.

A video shared online, which purports to have been filmed by a witness moments before the crash, showed an aircraft flying over the city. It then makes a nosedive and hits a building in a fiery explosion.

A security source cited by TASS assessed that the drone was targeting an aviation plant located in Voronezh, but was stopped by electronic warfare countermeasures.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the investigation into the incident was underway, but preliminary reports indicated that it was a Ukrainian attack against Russian civilian infrastructure.

Last week, three unmanned aerial vehicles crashed in Moscow, hitting several residential buildings. Russia has accused Ukraine of launching the aircraft, branding the incident an act of terrorism.

The Voronezh Region is located in the western part of Russia, relatively close to Kiev-controlled territories. Ukrainian troops have been launching regular cross-border attacks since the start of the armed conflict with Russia.

Belinsky Street in Voronezh, where the latest drone fell, is in the city center, close to several government buildings and a university campus.

The shroud of polluted air emanating from Canadian wildfires pushed further down the Atlantic Seaboard on Thursday, blanketing Washington, D.C., in an unhealthy haze and prompting many residents of the nation's capital to stay indoors.

Traffic was light and trains less crowded than usual as many companies in the city told employees to work from home. Some non-essential municipal services were suspended, including parks and recreation, road construction and waste collection.

The Washington Nationals baseball team called off its home game, while the National Zoo shut down for the day. The Biden administration postponed its Pride Month event, which had been expected to be the largest celebration for LGBTQ+ people in the White House's history.

It was the worst case of wildfire smoke blanketing the U.S. Northeast in more than 20 years, according to private forecasting service AccuWeather.

The U.S. National Weather Service extended air quality alerts from New England to South Carolina, as well as parts of the Midwest, including Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. The smoke reached as far as Norway by Thursday, according to scientists tracking the level of particulates in Scandinavia.

Millions of Americans have been advised to stay indoors if possible to avoid respiratory issues and other health problems that could arise due to the high levels of fine particulates in the atmosphere.

Government data showed air quality readings above the "hazardous" level in Washington on Thursday morning.

Marvin Binnick, who moved to Washington from Nebraska a month ago, said watching the wildfire smoke roll into the nation's capital from his 12th floor apartment was surreal.

"This is supposed to be a typical sunny day, but I can't see the sky or sun or anything," said Binnick, who was sent home from his customer service job early on Thursday. "Normally D.C. is pretty popping - but on my way to work and on my way home today, it looked like a ghost town."

Many people wore masks outside as a thick layer of smoke veiled the capital. The dense smog, which reeked of ash, erased the top of the Washington Monument from view.

"This problem is likely to continue or worsen through Friday," Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a tweet. "We urge residents and visitors to follow precautions."

BRIGHTER SKIES OVER NEW YORK

In New York, which spent much of Wednesday covered in a sickly haze, air remained some of the worst in the world on Thursday, with pollution similar to that found in perennially smoggy cities such as Dhaka and Delhi, according to IQAir, a Swiss technology company.

Though a smell of burning wood lingered, the skies were brighter on Thursday morning than on Wednesday, but as evening approached, the haze appeared to be thickening again.

After two days in which schools called off outdoor activities, including sports practices and recess, New York's public school system announced that its more than 1 million students would shift to remote learning on Friday.

The smoke prompted aviation officials to halt incoming flights to major airports in New York and Philadelphia from the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic region and Ohio for a second day. All flights bound for the airport in Newark, New Jersey, a major New York-area airport, were delayed.

Smoky conditions are likely to persist until Sunday, when a new storm system shifts the direction of prevailing winds, National Weather Service meteorologist Peter Mullinax said.

But researchers have said wildfires will occur more often and at higher intensity due to climate change.

"Public knowledge is a huge issue," said Keith Bein of the Air Quality Research Center at the University of California, Davis. "People need to realize that this is not a one-off event. These fires are going to be the new normal."

While the conditions have disrupted daily life for millions of Americans, the impact on the U.S. economy is likely to be limited and short-lived, according to Ryan Sweet, chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics.

In Canada, where the smoke originated, the federal government gave Toronto a "high risk" rating based on the air quality on Thursday afternoon, while other cities such as Ottawa and Montreal were at "low risk" as smoky conditions eased.

The country is enduring its worst-ever start to wildfire season, with thousands forced from their homes.

The U.S. has dispatched more than 600 firefighters to Canada to help the country battle the blazes. President Joe Biden, who has called the wildfires another reminder of the dangers of climate change, said U.S. officials were monitoring air quality and aviation delays.

Sebab, bila jaraknya terlalu jauh pedagang terancam kehilangan konsumen,” tambahnya.

Pakar sarankan Golkar tampilkan Ridwan Kamil dongkrak elektabilitas

Pakar sarankan Golkar tampilkan Ridwan Kamil dongkrak elektabilitas

Pengamat: Golkar Harus Proaktif Dorong Airlangga Cawapres

Sementara menurut analis komunikasi politik Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), Emrus Sihombing, Partai Golkar harus proaktif mendorong Ketua Umum DPP Golkar, Airlangga Hartarto menjadi cawapres.

Ekonom: Pemerintah Harus Jujur Situasi Kemiskinan RI Untuk Ikuti Saran Bank Dunia

Ekonom: Pemerintah Harus Jujur Situasi Kemiskinan RI Untuk Ikuti Saran Bank Dunia

Ekonom: Pemerintah Harus Jujur Situasi Kemiskinan RI Untuk Ikuti Saran Bank Dunia

“Pemerintah jangan sampai mengabaikannya. Jangan menyangkalnya.

France stabbing: Four children wounded in Annecy knife attack

France stabbing: Four children wounded in Annecy knife attack

Four toddlers and two pensioners were stabbed in a knife attack in the tranquil French mountain town of Annecy on Thursday and the government said the suspected assailant was a Syrian refugee.

A video of the attack, taken by a bystander and verified by Reuters, showed the assailant jump a low wall into a children's playground and repeatedly lunge at a child in a stroller, pushing aside a woman who tries to fend him off.

Two of the wounded children and one adult were in hospital in a life-threatening condition, while the other victims were less seriously hurt.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said the suspected attacker, who was in police custody, was a 31-year old Syrian national who was granted asylum in Sweden 10 years ago. He had entered France legally, she said, and was carrying Swedish identity documents and a Swedish driving licence.

The local prosecutor leading the investigation said there was no indication that terrorism was the assailant's motivation. He was under investigation for attempted murder.

The four children were just toddlers, aged between 22 months and three years, Annecy prosecutor Line Bonnet-Mathis told reporters.

One of them was a British national, another was Dutch, Bonnet-Mathis said.

As the assailant, who wore a blue-chequered headscarf and sunglasses, slashed at his victims, one bystander tried to stop him by throwing his backpack at him, the video showed.

Police have not publicly released the suspect's name.

A woman identified as his ex-wife told BFM TV that her former partner was a Christian.

"He does not call me for four months. (Our relationship) stopped because we lived in Sweden and he did not want to live in Sweden anymore," she told BFM TV, adding that he had not previously shown a violent streak.

French news agency AFP reported the assailant was carrying a prayer book on his person when he launched his attack

COURT CONVICTION

The incident took place at around 0745 GMT in Le Paquier park in Annecy, a town in the French Alps.

"He clearly targeted the babies," a witness who gave his name as Ferdinand told BFM TV.

President Emmanuel Macron said his country was in shock, calling the attack "an act of absolute cowardice".

Swedish court documents seen by Reuters showed the suspect - whose name Reuters confirmed with police - was fined for fraud in Sweden in 2022 for claiming unemployment and student benefits at the same time.

The ruling said that he had struggled financially and at one point had had to sell his wife's jewellery to make ends meet.

The attack ended when police shot at the suspect and then overpowered him, an eyewitness video verified by Reuters showed.

He was not injured, the prosecutor said.

Several witnesses described Le Paquier park as an usually tranquil place popular with tourists for its stunning views of Lake Annecy and the mountains.

"It's a place where babysitters and parents take young children to play. I often see around 15 toddlers there in the morning, and the atmosphere is fantastic," said Yohan, who works at an ice-cream parlour just opposite the park.

France has been shocked by a number of violent incidents over the past few months, including the fatal stabbing last month of a nurse in the northern town of Reims.

Macron has denounced what he calls a "de-civilisation process" in the country, while opposition lawmakers say his government has been too lax on law and order.

"Nothing more abominable than to attack children," National Assembly speaker Yael Braun-Pivet said on Twitter. Parliament observed a minute of silence to mark the incident.
