Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that there was an explosion in the city’s central Shevchenkivskyi district on Monday morning. He later reported on a second blast in the same district.

Sounds of explosions were heard in the city of Kiev on Monday morning, Ukrainian media report.

Earlier on Monday, an air raid warning was issued in the Kiev region, as well as the city of Kiev, according to the regional and city authorities.

According to Ukrainian media reports, as of 06:15 local time on Monday (03:15 GMT), air raid warnings were in effect in the Zhitomir, Vinnitsa, Cherkasy, Kirovograd, Nikolaev and Odessa regions.

Explosions were reported in various parts of Ukraine late on Sunday night, including the cities of Nikolaev and Odessa. In Nikolaev, a fire erupted at a fuel storage site after the blasts, according to Ukrainian media reports.

According to regional authorities, critical infrastructure sites were targeted in the Sumy and Dnepropetrovsk regions on Monday morning. A fire erupted at an energy infrastructure site in the Dnepropetrovsk region after the blast.

The attacks came exactly one week after Russia unleashed its heaviest aerial bombardment of Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities since the start of the war - also during morning rush hour.

Russia has accused Ukraine of hitting targets in Belgorod region near the border. Pro-Russian news sources on the Telegram social media app reported that Ukraine had struck Belgorod's airport overnight. There was no immediate comment from Kyiv, which typically does not comment on incidents in Russia.

Elsewhere on Monday, renewed Russian shelling near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, Europe's largest, caused it to be disconnected again from Ukraine's power grid, Ukrainian state energy firm Energoatom said.

In southern central Ukraine, a large fire broke out at an energy facility in the Dnipropetrovsk region after an overnight missile hit, a local official said. Ukraine also reported strikes that set ablaze a sunflower oil terminal in the southern port of Mykolaiv.

"Termasuk prodi S1 Kimia oleh Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)," tutur Dede.

Dede menuturkan capaian akreditasi internasional ini sekaligus membuktikan FMIPA UI mampu meningkatkan Indikator Kinerja Utama (IKU) poin 8 yaitu jumlah prodi berstandar internasional.

No Trust for Truss: Why End is Nigh for Liz's Prime Ministership

No Trust for Truss: Why End is Nigh for Liz's Prime Ministership

No Trust for Truss: Why End is Nigh for Liz's Prime Ministership

Liz Truss' premiership is looking increasingly in peril after five weeks of navigating the country through an economic storm. On Friday, she sacked her top finance minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, and shelved her ambitious plan to reduce corporation tax. Meanwhile, the new chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, is said to be undoing Truss' other flagship policies.

"The premiership of Liz Truss is in grave danger," said Alistair Jones, associate professor of politics at De Montfort University in the UK. "The track record in the five weeks she's been in office has been absolutely abysmal where the UK economy has done very, very badly. Global confidence in the government and the way it's planning on running things has been massively undermined. The knock-on effect of this has been for Liz Truss to sack her chancellor of the exchequer, Kwasi Kwarteng, even though he was implementing the policies that she wanted to be implemented."

Jones explained that the entire campaign that Truss ran to become Conservative Party leader "was based around cutting taxes and also targeting some aspects of reduced spending, but basically trying to get the economy to grow." She vehemently criticized those who threw the viability of her plan into question as part of "anti-growth coalition," the academic noted, adding that eventually "this backfired massively, because so many international organizations questioned what she was doing."

However, markets reacted negatively to the Truss Cabinet's mini-budget, announced by then-Chancellor Kwarteng late last month. Borrowing and mortgage costs went up, while the pound sterling went down. Notably, the UK prime minister's decision to fire her chancellor and make a U-turn on her flagship tax-cutting policy on October 14 did not end the market turmoil: the British pound and government bonds fell again.

"Never before has Britain found itself in such a humiliatingly risible position," The Atlantic remarked on Friday. "It is the stuff of nightmares: the national equivalent of getting caught short onstage in front of your entire school because you chose not to go to the bathroom when you had the chance.

"The knock-on effect of this, though, has been for the Conservative Party to lose even more confidence in Liz Truss as prime minister," noted Jones. "Now it must be borne in mind that when the leadership election started, which she eventually won, about 50 MPs out of the 350 odd Conservative MPs actually backed. So you're talking therefore one in seven. In this respect, she did not have the support of Conservative MPs. Even though she won the election and many of them rallied round behind her - the reality is their support at best was lukewarm."

According to the professor, Truss "has done huge amounts of damage to the economy and to her party and to the credibility of the country in a very short space of time." He presumed that the appointment of Jeremy Hunt as the new chancellor looks like "a lack of confidence in Liz Truss."

Indeed, the British press of all stripes describes Hunt as the only adult in the room. The Guardian noted that the former health secretary is seen as "the most powerful man in government." The Spectator agreed: "Truss is now prime minister in name only: Jeremy Hunt, her chancellor of the exchequer, now holds power." According to the media, Hunt has repudiated the prime minister's mini-budget and is now working on a medium-term financial strategy at the Treasury, while operating in tandem with Andrew Bailey, governor of the Bank of England. A newly-empowered Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR) approves of Hunt's approach. "Each of these institutions – the Bank, the Treasury and the OBR – were treated with disdain by Truss and Kwarteng," The Spectator added.

"There is speculation that Liz Truss will be gone potentially in a matter of days if not weeks. And the reason being the lack of confidence in her ability to lead the party," Jones noted. "Her Cabinet was made up of allies rather than trying to unify the party, and they were basically simply isolated from the rest of the party. Her speeches, and even with the sacking of Kwasi Kwarteng, that particular press conference, instilled little or no confidence in her ability to lead."

"One of them, possibly Mordaunt, [would] be prime minister," the academic continued. "And if she was to be prime minister, Rishi Sunak would be head chancellor of the exchequer and Jeremy Hunt could choose whatever job he wanted. Apart from those two, if Sunak was to become prime minister, Jeremy Hunt, as speculated, will stay in post as chancellor and Penny Mordaunt will become deputy prime minister and also foreign secretary."

As of yet, this is all speculation, because there is a whole argument about whether or not the Conservative Party wants to go through the turmoil of another leadership election, according to the professor.

There are many various potential successors being considered in the press: from Secretary of State for Defense Ben Wallace to former Chancellor Rishi Sunak. What saves Truss at the moment is that "there is no common consensus on who would be best placed to take over," according to The Spectator. Nonetheless, the British media doesn't rule out that the patience of British MPs will soon become extremely thin resulting in Truss' ouster.

Pipeline carrying Russian oil to Germany fixed

Polish operator says Russian oil pipeline to Germany 'restored'

The Druzhba pipeline carrying Russian oil from Siberia to Central Europe suffered a leak earlier this week. The Polish operator said it was still investigating the cause of the leak.

The Druzhba pipeline, which transfers Russian crude oil to Germany and other Central European countries, has been fixed after a leak was reported earlier this week.

Polish state-run pipeline operator PERN said the pipeline was now fully operational.

"PERN's technical services restored the full functionality of the damaged pipeline used to deliver crude oil to the company's German customers on Saturday," Reuters news agency quoted PERN as saying in a statement.

'No sabotage' suspected

The operator stressed it was still investigating the cause of the leak, which was reported on Tuesday, but said there was no reason to suspect sabotage.

"Based on initial assessments, and the manner and way that the pipeline is formed, there are no hints as of now of outsider tampering," Germany's dpa news agency quoted PERN as saying.

Many suspected the Druzhba pipeline leak was due to an act of sabotage amid the energy crisis in Europe

In the wake of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, European countries have been scrambling to minimize their reliance on Russian oil and gas.

Last month, explosions hit the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in the Baltic Sea. Both Russia and Western countries have swapped sabotage accusations. The two pipelines were not operational at the time — Moscow cut off gas supplies via Nord Stream 1 in August, saying Western sanctions were to blame for technical problems. Russia's aggression against Ukraine prompted Germany to shelve the Nord Stream 2 project in February.

The Druzhba pipeline was set up in the 1960s to transfer crude oil from Siberia to countries including Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Austria and Germany. Meaning "Friendship" in Russian, the pipeline is among the largest systems worldwide.

The energy crisis in Germany could prompt extremism to rise in the country, Minister-President of the German state of Bavaria Markus Soder warned on Sunday, urging democratic parties to cooperate more.

"Fear and uncertainty are the fuel for extremists. And before the coming winter, people are experiencing such uncertainty as they have not experienced for a long time. The mix of crises, such as energy and coronavirus, can lead to overstrain and destabilization of democracy. Therefore, democratic parties should take a clear position, argue less and encourage citizens," Soder told German newspaper Bild am Sonntag.

Soder also urged Economy Minister Robert Habeck and Finance Minister Christian Lindner to stop arguing about extending the operation of the nuclear power plants. He said that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz should resolve the dispute between the two politicians.

The Bavarian leader noted that the country needs to extend the operation of the nuclear power plants until at least 2024, as well as apply measures to reduce the rise of gas prices and introduce financial incentives for citizens in October and November.

Habeck and Lindner have been arguing for months about the extension of the operation of German nuclear power plants. Habeck, a member of the Greens political party, has expressed his intention to extend the operation of two out of the remaining three nuclear power plants until March 2023, while Lindner calls for the extension of the operation of all three plants until 2024.

Germany was planning to phase out nuclear energy in 2022. At the beginning of the year, Berlin shut down three out of six nuclear power plants.

Germany was planning to phase out nuclear energy in 2022. At the beginning of the year, Berlin shut down three out of six nuclear power plants.

In August, Stephan Kramer, President of the Thuringian Office for the Protection of the Constitution, told German broadcaster ZDF that the country was facing a so-called "winter of fury" over imminent "violent" protests against the background of the coronavirus pandemic, the Ukraine crisis, economic woes, and the energy crisis.

Kramer warned of looming "legitimate protests" against the situation that "threatens our existence in the fall," namely "gas shortages, energy difficulties, supply issues, possibly recession, unemployment, but also growing poverty right down to the middle class."

Thousands of protesters have gathered in Paris on Sunday to take part in a march against skyrocketing living costs and climate inaction of the government, a Sputnik correspondent reports.

The Sunday protest was called by Jean-Luc Melenchon's the France Unbowed party and other left-wing parties, including Europe Ecology - The Greens and the Socialist Party, along with several French unions and associations.

The march began with a walkout from the Place de la Nation square at around 3 p.m. local time (13:00 GMT) and was controlled by police cordons.

The activists demand higher wages and social benefits, windfall taxes on energy companies, capping electricity bills and investment in ecological projects. Calls against soaring fuel and food prices, and the controversial pension reform could also be heard at the march.

Radicals appeared at the site of the protest action in Paris, provocations began, the police used tear gas

"We are here to save the French from poverty. [French President Emmanuel] Macron is trying to destroy our country. He is trying to destroy all public goods. It is obvious to us that from November the prices of all fuel, gasoline and diesel will exceed 3 euros, so we have to act. Otherwise we will soon have nothing to eat this winter," one of the activists of the Yellow Vests movement told the Sputnik correspondent.

Some participants shared their resentment over France's increased military support to Ukraine.

"Not only has France supplied Kiev with Caesar howitzers, but it also invites the French to train Ukrainian soldiers. This is too much, this is outrageous. The United States is trying to drag us into a war that is not even ours," another protester said.

On October 8, thousands of protesters gathered in Paris, demanding Macron's resignation.

France remains gripped by widespread protest movement amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. The leading French unions announced on Thursday that they were going to hold a nationwide strike on October 18, demanding higher wages and protesting against the government's interference in the social movement of oil employees and encroachment on the right to strike.
