Desai described the US comments to undercut the power of the ceasefire vote as “typical US behavior,” and that “the US has been a rogue power all along.”
“Remember, the United States actually hates the United Nations. The Security Council itself was something it managed to put together with the cooperation of other major powers as kind of a limit on the recognition of the sovereign equality of all countries,” Desai explained. “The US did not create the post-world war order, the United States essentially used everything in its power… which was not unlimited, to prevent a truly equal world order from coming into being.”
Desai noted the US has always flaunted the rules of the UN system because “the rules were made by a body larger than” the US.
“The United States has always considered itself free to violate any agreement it likes, which is why it is a rogue state. But what I’m saying is that it’s been a rogue state all along,” Desai explained, adding that it has violated the “world order” it helped create after World War II “many times.”
“What the US wanted in the post-world war order was to create a world which would open itself up to the entry of US corporations for their own profit,” Desai said, adding that if it was powerful enough to craft the world without its allies “it would have never needed to violate the rules.”
Desai further pointed out the unipolar world the US claimed after the Soviet Union did not last nearly as long as they expected.
Recalling how economist Jim O’Neill's famous BRICS report was published in 2001 and came only a decade after the fall of the Soviet Union, Desai highlighted how “already within a decade, the US aspiration to be the unipolar leader of the world was essentially gone.”
Instead of leading, the US has been isolated because it is acting as a unipolar leader, while in reality the world is multipolar, Desai explained.
So, instead of following the rules of the UN it helped create, the US “effectively destroys the world order it created after World War II,” she said, referencing the blocking of WTO judges that neutered the organization, as well as the UN Security Council.
“The US has never got its way, and that’s what it can’t stand,” Desai concluded. “But you see, as Einstein said, you keep doing the same thing again and again and expect a different result, that's madness. فائدة الاعتكاف وثمرته:

ولا ريب أن نجاح العبد في التخلص من فضول الصحبة ، والكلام والنوم يسهم في دفع القلب نحو الإقبال على الله تعالى وحمايته من ضد ذلك

الجمع بين الصوم والاعتكاف
لا ريب أن اجتماع أسباب تربية القلب بالإعراض عن الصوارف عن الطاعة ، أدْعى للإقبال على الله تعالى والتوجه إليه بانقطاع وإخبات ، ولذلك استحب السلف الجمع بين الصيام والاعتكاف ، حتى قال الإمام ابن القيم رحمه الله : ( ولم ينقل عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه اعتكف مفطراً قط ، بل قالت عائشة : ( لا اعتكاف إلا بصوم ) أخرجه أبو داود ( 2473 )
ولم يذكر الله سبحانه وتعالى الاعتكاف إلا مع الصوم ، ولا فعله رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إلا مع الصوم .
فالقول الراجح في الدليل الذي عليه جمهور السلف : ( أن الصوم شرط في الاعتكاف ، وهو الذي كان يرجحه شيخ الإسلام أبو العباس ابن تيمية ) زاد المعاد 2/87،88
واشتراط الصوم في الاعتكاف نقل عن ابن عمر وابن عباس ، وبه قال مالك والأوزاعي وأبو حنيفة ، واختلف النقل في ذلك عن أحمد والشافعي .
وأما قول الإمام ابن القيم رحمه الله : ( ولم ينقل عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه اعتكف مفطراً قط ) ففيه بعض النظر ، فقد نقل أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ، اعتكف في شوال ) رواه البخاري ( 1928 ) ومسلم ( 1173 ) . ولم يثبت أنه كان صائماً في هذه الأيام التي اعتكافها ، ولا أنه كان مفطراً .
فالأصح أن الصوم مستحب للمعتكف ، وليس شرطاً لصحته .
مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في معتكفه : اعتكف عليه الصلاة والسلام في العشر الأول من رمضان ثم العشر الأواسط ، يلتمس ليلة القدر ، ثم تبيّن له أنها في العشر الأواخر فداوم على اعتكافها .
فعن أبي سعيد الخدري رضي الله عنه قال : كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ، يجاور في العشر التي وسط الشهر ، فإذا كان من حين تمضي عشرون ليلة ، ويستقبل إحدى وعشرين ، يرجع إلى مسكنه ، ورجع من كان يجاور معه ، ثم إنه أقام في شهر ، جاور فيه تلك الليلة التي كان يرجع فيها ، فخطب الناس ، فأمرهم بما شاء الله ، ثم قال : ( إني كنت أجاور هذه العشر ، ثم بدالي أن أجاور هذه العشر الأواخر ، فمن كان اعتكف معي فليبت في معتكفه ، وقد رأيت هذه الليلة فأنسيتها ، فالتمسوها في العشر الأواخر ، في كل وتر ، وقد رأيتني أسجد في ماء وطين ) .
قال أبو سعيد : مطرنا ليلة إحدى وعشرين ، فوكف المسجد في مصلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ، فنظرت إليه ، وقد انصرف من صلاة الصبح ، ووجهه مبتل ماء وطيناً فتحقق ما أخبر به صلى الله عليه وسلم وهذا من علامات نبوته .
ثم حافظ صلى الله عليه وسلم ، على الاعتكاف في العشر الأواخر ، كما في الصحيحين من حديث عائشة رضي الله عنها أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يعتكف العشر الأواخر من رمضان حتى توفاه الله عز وجل ثم اعتكف أزواجه من بعده . رواه البخاري ( 1921 ) ومسلم ( 1171 ).

Donald Trump posted a US$175 million bond in his New York civil fraud case on Monday, averting asset seizures by state authorities that could have hobbled the former US president’s business empire.
The Republican Trump, set to face Democratic President Joe Biden in the November US election, was found liable on February 16 for fraudulently inflating his net worth by billions of dollars to secure better loan and insurance terms.
Trump originally needed to post a bond for US$454 million, but an appeal court on March 25 stayed enforcement of Justice Arthur Engoron’s judgment on condition that Trump pay the smaller sum within 10 days.
A three-judge panel of the appeal court will hear Trump’s appeal on the merits. The appeal court ruling reducing the bond is no indication of how the panel will ultimately rule.
The bond prevents New York Attorney General Letitia James from going after Trump’s properties, including Trump Tower, his 149.7-hectare (370-acre) resort and golf course in Westchester and his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
Trump has denied wrongdoing and said the case is a political witch hunt by James, a Democrat who sued him in 2022.
In a 92-page order, Justice Engoron described how Trump directed deputies to change the values of his properties to arrive at his desired net worth for a decade before his entry into politics.
The case is part of a maelstrom of legal troubles Trump faces, including a criminal trial in New York set to begin on April 15.
Trump, who has pleaded not guilty, is accused in that case of illegally covering up hush money payments to a porn star ahead of the 2016 election. He has also been charged in two cases with trying to overturn his 2020 election loss to Biden and in another over his handling of classified documents upon leaving office.
Those have been mired in delays and may not go to trial before the November election. Trump has pleaded not guilty in all of them.
A court on Monday ordered Trump to stop verbal attacks on family members of a New York judge and others in his hush money trial after he disparaged the judge’s daughter.
“All citizens, called upon to participate in these proceedings, whether as a juror, a witness, or in some other capacity, must now concern themselves not only with their own personal safety, but with the safety and the potential for personal attacks upon their loved ones. That reality cannot be overstated,” Juan Merchan said in the expanded gag order.
New York prosecutors have argued that Trump was trying to scare potential witnesses and urged Merchan to make clear that his existing gag order, which bars Trump from publicly commenting about witnesses and court staff, also applies to family members.
They were responding to a March 28 social media post by Trump, who called Merchan’s daughter a “Rabid Trump Hater” and called for the judge to be removed from the case.
“Family members of trial participants must be strictly off-limits,” prosecutor Matthew Colangelo wrote. “Defendant’s insistence to the contrary bespeaks a dangerous sense of entitlement to instigate fear and even physical harm to the loved ones of those he sees in the courtroom.”
Merchan’s daughter runs a digital marketing agency called Authentic Campaigns, which works with Democratic candidates and non-profits.
Trump’s lawyers have argued that her work poses a conflict of interest and have unsuccessfully sought to oust Merchan from the case.
Susan Necheles, a lawyer for Trump in the hush money case, declined to comment on Merchan’s expanded gag order.
Trump’s defence lawyers have said Trump’s posts did not violate the gag order and were not meant to interfere with the proceedings or cause any harm.
“President Trump must be permitted to speak on these issues in a manner that is consistent with his position as the leading presidential candidate,” his lawyer Todd Blanche wrote.

Trump is set to go on trial in New York state court in Manhattan on criminal charges of covering up a US$130,000 payment before the 2016 election to porn star Stormy Daniels to buy her silence about an alleged sexual encounter.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records and denies an encounter with Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.
Trump could face fines or jail time if he violates Merchan’s gag order, which does not bar him from criticising the judge or Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, whose office brought the charges last year.
