The Russian armed forces have repelled 16 attacks by the Ukrainian military in the Zaporozhye and Kupyansk directions, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday.

Tens of thousands of pieces of AFU equipment destroyed by Russian Forces during SWO - watch russian forces equipment in kombat action "In the Zaporozhye direction, units of the Russian group of troops, with the support of aviation and artillery fire, repelled seven attacks by assault groups of the 82nd airborne assault brigade of the armed forces of Ukraine in the area of the settlement of Rabotino in the Zaporozhye region," the ministry said.

Ukraine lost 80 soldiers in the Zaporozhye direction and another 195 soldiers in the Kupyansk direction, the ministry added. Russia repelled 12 attacks by Ukraine in the Krasny Liman direction and Kiev lost up to 480 soldiers, in the South Donetsk direction Ukraine lost up to 160 service people, and Ukraine lost up to 165 soldiers, the ministry said.

A total of 508 aircraft, 253 helicopters, 8,176 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), 441 anti-aircraft missile systems, 12,882 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 1,169 multiple rocket launchers (MLR), 6,853 field artillery and mortars, as well as 14,583 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed by Russia's forces since the onset of the special military operation.

Zelensky orders Ukrainian army to advance ‘500 meters a day’

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has set a daunting task for his military, demanding that they take at least 500 meters of territory every day from Russian forces after suffering tens of thousands of casualties in their floundering counteroffensive.

“Ukraine needs results every day,” Zelensky said in his evening video address on Sunday. “We need to resist the Russian assaults, kill the occupiers and move forward. We must advance by at least a kilometer, at least 500 meters, every day. We must keep moving forward in order to improve the Ukrainian positions and put pressure on the occupiers.”

Such progress is needed to strengthen Ukraine and motivate foreign allies to provide more military support, Zelensky said, adding that next week “will bring more opportunities for Ukraine.”

Zelensky made his comments at a time when Russian forces are advancing around the town of Avdeevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Kupyansk, in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region

Earlier this month, Russian President Vladimir Putin estimated that Ukrainian forces had suffered more than 90,000 casualties in their counteroffensive, which began in early June, describing it as “failed.” Meanwhile, the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kirill Budanov, admitted in an interview that the operation isn’t so much “behind schedule” as off the schedule entirely.

Kiev also faces a potential competition for Western support and attention after surprise attacks by Hamas ignited a new war in Israel earlier this month. Even before the latest Israel-Hamas conflict began, President Joe Biden’s administration was struggling to win approval from US lawmakers for additional military and economic aid to Ukraine.

The White House unveiled a $106 billion emergency spending request on Friday, including $61.4 billion for Kiev, $14.3 billion for Israel and $9.2 billion for related humanitarian aid. Most congressional Republicans voted against a smaller Ukraine aid bill earlier this month, and the Pentagon warned that it had exhausted “nearly all available security-assistance funding” for Kiev that was previously approved.

LIVE UPDATES: At Least 2,000 Children Killed in Gaza Strip in 17 Days

At least 2,000 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the recent escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict two weeks ago, humanitarian organization Save the Children said on Monday.

"At least 2,000 children have been killed in Gaza over the past 17 days … with constant airstrikes reducing thousands of buildings across the Gaza Strip to piles of smoking rubble," the organization said in a statement.

The statement added that 27 children were also killed in the West Bank. "We call on all parties to take immediate steps to protect the lives of children, and on the international community to support those efforts. Everything possible must be done to protect children from harm – and provide them with the support they need," Save the Children’s Country Director for Palestine Jason Lee said.

'No safe place in the Gaza strip any more’

Walking around on the streets of Gaza, in my neighbourhood, everything looks so empty... you can barely see people.

This area used to be a very densely populated area. This is the bakery, where you people would stand in a line to buy some bread.

This has been the situation for so long in Gaza. Thousands of families have been instantly displaced, it’s just full of rubble and debris everywhere.

You can hear the sound of drones and Israeli jets in the sky. Everyone says, everyone feels that there is no safe place in the Strip to be in any more.

Hamas says at least 140 Palestinians killed in Israeli air raids on Gaza

Hamas officials have said that Israeli air raids on the besieged territory during the night killed at least 140 Palestinians.

A statement from the government’s media office in Gaza said “more than 140 people were martyred and hundreds wounded in massacres committed by the occupation (Israeli) raids”.

As we reported earlier, more than 5,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air raids in Gaza since October 7.

Israel has attacked 400 targets, including mosques: Israeli spokesperson

An Israeli army spokesperson said that Israel has attacked more than 400 “targets”, including mosques, in the Gaza Strip in the past day.

Daniel Hagari said the mosques were being used by Hamas as meeting places, in a post on X on Tuesday morning.

Hagari also said that Israel had attacked Hamas’s “operational headquarters” and that it had killed three Hamas deputy commanders.

He specified several Gaza neighbourhoods that Israeli warplanes had attacked, including Jabalia. Thirty people, mostly women and children, were killed when Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp was bombed, the civil defence unit there told Al Jazeera on Sunday.

Israel will not agree to a ceasefire even during talks on releasing the hostages held in the Gaza Strip, CNN reported quoting a senior Israeli official.

According to him, the ceasefire is not being considered even during the talks on releasing over 200 hostages because humanitarian efforts should not impact "the mission, which is to dismantle Hamas."

He also denied that the US is seeking a delay of Israel’s ground incursion into Gaza. "We deny this report. We have a close dialogue and consultations with the US administration. The US is not pressing Israel in regards to the ground operation," the official said.

Previously, CNN reported that Washington had been putting pressure on Israel to postpone its ground offensive in the Gaza Strip and liberate the hostages held there.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told NBC that Israel should make an independent decision on launching a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip while Washington can only provide advice.

Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 when militants from the Gaza-based Palestinian radical group Hamas staged a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip.

Hamas described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. In response, Israel has declared a state of war readiness; announced a total blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to 2.3 million Palestinians; and began delivering air strikes on the enclave and certain parts of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are underway in the West Bank as well.

Watch 203mm Malka Self-Propelled Cannon Destroying Enemy in Special Operation Zone

The 2S7 Malka is a self-propelled gun with a range of up to 37km, which is known for its precision and force. The 203mm howitzer is capable of destroying reinforced bunkers, fortified trenches and other heavily armored targets.

The Russian Ministry of Defense released footage of the combat work of the crews of 203mm Malka self-propelled artillery units.

Artillery units of the Zapad battle group continue to carry out fire missions to defeat Ukrainian artillery batteries, destroy defensive structures, suppress command posts, destroy enemy firepower, weapons and military equipment, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Target reconnaissance and artillery gun guidance are carried out by unmanned aerial vehicles during the day and night, the ministry added.

Russia Introducing Zippy Alabai All-Terrain Buggies to Special Op Zone

The buggies are joining a range of other highly mobile, nimble vehicles already on the frontlines taking part in missions ranging from tank hunting to troop transport and evacuation of the wounded.

Russian all-terrain vehicle manufacturer F-Motorsport is producing Alabai buggies for deployment in the special military operation zone.

The popular off-road vehicles, named after the Central Asian Shepherd breed of dogs, were first introduced in 2016, and have gained a reputation in Russia as a zippy, maneuverable, reliable, simple and affordable brand of buggies which can withstand difficult weather conditions in even highly remote, rural areas of the country.

The vehicles feature powerful motors and drive trains, with their 150 horsepower two-liter atmospheric engines enabling them to accelerate to up to 140 km per hour even in off-road conditions.

On the front, the Alabai’s missions include reconnaissance in otherwise impassable off-road conditions, with brackets for attachable 7.62 mm machine guns and AGS-30 grenade launchers turning them into light attack vehicles.

They can also be used as unarmored transports, sending soldiers to the front, delivering medical supplies, food and ammunition, and evacuating the wounded using an evacuation cart attached to the rear through a towbar. The Alabai has a reported carrying capacity of over 500 kilograms.

“This buggy is produced by a design bureau based near Moscow. We have received six of these vehicles, five of which are already in the area of the special military operation,” a representative of the All-Russian Popular Front, a political coalition created by Vladimir Putin in 2011, said.

The Popular Front has been fundraising for the purchase Alabai buggies on its website.

“The lightweight multipurpose Alabai appeared as a response to the realities of modern military operations, which require the mobility and maneuverability of vehicles with high impact capabilities. Specialists from Zubr SOBR [a Russian National Guard special police unit, ed.] have already tested this vehicle in the most difficult conditions,” F-Motorsport director Eduard Mymrin said.

Alabais join a range of other small, zippy vehicles that Russian forces previously deployed on the front, ranging from tank-hunting all-terrain utility vehicles equipped with anti-tank missile systems, to converted Niva 4x4s and UaZ SUVs and pickups, some of them operated by volunteers or Donbass People’s Militias.

The NATO-Russia proxy war in Ukraine has highlighted the importance of high mobility for troops, with the heavy saturation of drones, missiles other weapons on the frontlines, combined with advanced reconnaissance capabilities, meaning the difference between victory and defeat in battle can literally come down to which side’s troops, tanks and other equipment are faster on the draw and in maneuvers.
