Presidents Putin and Lukashenko spoke by phone on Saturday to discuss the situation in southern Russia, where Wagner PMC chief Evgeny Prigozhin launched an armed mutiny on Friday after accusing the Russian military of attacking his men. The Russian defense ministry denied the claims.







In response to events in Russia Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has held two conferences with top officers of defense, security, and law enforcement agencies. The head of state's press secretary Natalya Eismont confirmed it for BelTA.


The press secretary noted: “The meetings took place in the morning and in the afternoon. Top officers of defense, security, and law enforcement agencies were invited to them.”


BelTA reported earlier that President of Russia Vladimir Putin talked to Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko over the phone in the morning on 24 June. The Russian president called the Belarus president in the morning. During the phone call Vladimir Putin informed Aleksandr Lukashenko about the situation in Russia, the press service of the Belarusian leader said.


Evgeny Prigozhin has agreed to halt his advance on Moscow after a mediation effort led by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Belarusian state media reported Saturday evening.


Lukashenko's talks with Prigozhin, said to have stretched throughout the day Saturday, were agreed with Putin. "As a result, the parties agreed to to the inadmissibility of unleashing a bloody massacre on Russian territory. Evgeny Prigozhin accepted President Lukashenko's proposal to stop the movement of Wagner's forces in Russia and to take further steps to de-escalate tensions," the report said.


The report further indicated that "absolutely advantageous and acceptable option for resolving the situation" had been tabled, including "security guarantees for Wagner's fighters."


At the moment, an absolutely profitable and acceptable option for solving the situation is on the table, with security guarantees for the Wagner PMC fighters.


As previously reported, also during today, the President of Belarus held two meetings with the power bloc of the country on this situation.”


Previously, Western media carried hoax news seven hours ago, that the Prigozhin uprising, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko fled to Russia.
